From Cetinje comes the famous family Petrovic, secular  and spiritual rulers and artists. Every stone is a part of history and nature created the beautiful surroundings. Mount  Lovcen  overlooks Cetinje plain and stands between Cetinje and Boka Kotorska.

Lovcen National Park  is in many ways unhinge. The beauty of the panoramas is almost unbelievable.  Lovcen National Park is 6400 hectares, with a great variety of geographical features.  Special attractions of this Park are the  famous Lovcen hairpin bends from where can be seen the rocky plains, funnel shaped depressions and bare hilltops of the National Park.

Along the old road from Kotor over Lovcen is Njegus a picturesque mountain village the birthplace of  Petar II Petrovic Njegos and King Nikola I Petrovic. Petar II Petrovic Njegos  was the greatest Montenegrin ruler and poet. It is said that he was in love with Lovcen's rocky peaks. Before he died he asked to be buried on the highest peak of Mount Lovcen which overlooks Lake Skadar.  This wish was fulfilled by Prince Danilo. In 1916 the little church was destroyed by the Austrians. Njegos  remains were exhumed and removed to Cetinje, the Montenegrin capital .

In 1925. a new chapel was built in which, for the second time, Peter II Petrovic Njegos was buried.

At that time a new idea was born, to build a monumental mausoleum. King  Alexander Karadjordjevic instructed the sculptor Ivan Mestrovic to design the mausoleum. This was built  between 1951 and 1974.

THE RIVER TARA - TEAR OF EUROPE

The river Tara, that has been entered into the register of the UNESCO, world - wide legacy of nature, is in a lot of things unique at the planet. Canyon of the river, whose lenght is 96 km and height of about 1300 meters is on the second place in the world, just after the river Colorado. That second place, canyon of the river Tara or how she is usually called in the world "TEAR OF EUROPE", because of splendid clear, liquid and clearine water, he has got because of magnificient cliffs that are verically rising up to the sky. In anything else, for example, variety of flora and fauna it is, doubtless, the first on the Earth. The river Tara and her canyon, in short, have to be seen and that is possible only by raft, respectively, coming down the river. " Who did not see the river Tara and her canyon - he did not see anything. " " If there is eternity than has to be hidden somewhere - in the canyon of the river Tara." At the beginning of the canyon, on his gate "Crna Poda", on about twenty five hectares, there is a jungle of black pines, unique in the world. Trunks, high even sixty meters, old about five centuries are looking up to the sky. And, further, downstream on every step, the river Tara is unrepeatable. There is the river Ljutica, the shortest ( 140 meters) and the fastest river in the Europe. One kilometer further there is a bridge, called "Djurdjevica Tara", high 150 meters, built before the second world war and he is putting together cliffs of the canyon and so reminds on giant bird in flying and with her wings caught by bluffs and stayed there to hover above majestic water of the river Tara. Than, about fourteen kilometers" Brstanovacki Bukovi ", 14 km of wild, frothy river, where she is showing all power and superiority of the nature. Anywhere on the planet the man cannot better feel that aboriginal power of nature, but there can. It is banded by dignified cliffs of the canyon. There is fear, respecting and admiration that God's work and all of it, on that place is such to stay remembered for all the times. Everything can be forgotten but the river Tara and her canyon are keeping in mind.
