3D Studio Max tutorialsModeling a modern lamp
In this tutorial I will show you how to model a modern lamp in 3d studio max. This is a tutorial for beginers.
The base is very simple, made of a chamfer box, and this sit on other 4 chamfer boxes. After that I made some splines, using smooth mode, and made a rectangle with rounder corners for the profile.
Convert this rectangle to editable poly and extrude this along the spline. Raise up the number of segment until you obtain a smooth result. In my case was 30
Do the same procedure once again, and here is the result
The border of the base was made from a rectangle, converted to editable spline, and then outline this a bit. After this I applied the extrude modifier.
Convert this to editable poly and chamfer all edges a bit to give this a smoother look.
The horizontal segments were made also with chamfer boxes rotated a bit. The lamp was made from a box, converted to editable poly, and then scaled the base to obtain this shape. Delete the top poligon also.
Duplicate this geometry for the holding structure. Then select the side faces and inset them by poligon.
The delete the selected faces, and apply a shell modifier to both, glass, and support, to give a thickness
We are finished with the modeling
For the rendering and texturing I used Vray. The materials are simple Brushed metal material
Gold material
Glass material - for this material I used a checker map in bump slot
Here is the final image
