About the Program

Adopt-A-Poet Foundation:

The Adopt-A-Poet Foundation was founded by Concrete Angel as a new way to open up to new poets on the site. It's a chance for younger and/or less experienced poets to learn from those with more experience and/or knowledge in the world of poetry. It gives poets a chance for any questions to be answered on a one on one and more personal basis. It is also a chance for all poets to grow, and even gain new friends.

Participation:

There are two ways to participate: As an "Adopter / Mentor" or as an "Adoptee"

An Adopter / Mentor is anyone who wants to adopt a poet because age and knowledge do not matter. There is always someone out there older and more knowledgeable than you are.

An Adoptee is a poet who is up for adoption, either by request or by referral. Anyone who feels they have room for growth or wants to learn different styles, or just someone looking for a friend, can be an adoptee. It is recommended that once you are adopted that you read and comment on your "Poet Parent's" poems and also encourage you to ask questions about the poem and where they found their inspiration for it.

How to Become an Adoptee:

To become an Adoptee or to suggest someone for adoption you only need to click on the Staff link on this page. Any one of our Managers can add members to the Adoptable Poets lists.  If you want to be adopted by a specific member, the Managers are assigned to specific Adopter / Mentor poets. Match the first letter in the AllPoetry screen name of the Adopter you want, to the Manager assigned to them and click on their name. You will be directed to their Author's page where you can send them an IM requesting to become adopted by that member.  Or you could let the Managers match you up.  But please be patient.  This process can sometimes take a long time, because we want to make sure that the match is as “perfect” as it can be.

If someone suggests a member as a referral to become an Adoptee, we will contact that member first to see if they are interested in participating.

There is a list, constantly being updated of Adoptees.  Click on Adoptees link on this page and it will direct you to it. Once a member is confirmed as an Adoptee, they will be placed on the list and available to become an adopted poet. Please be patient if you don't see the screen name immediately. The AAP Foundation Website is normally updated on Sunday evenings, California time.

How to Become an Adopter:

To become an Adopter you only need to click on the Staff link above. Managers are assigned to specific members of AllPoetry that have requested to become Adopters / Mentors.  The first letter in your screen name will direct you to the appropriate Manager.  When you find the Manager assigned to you, simply click on their name. You will be directed to their Author's page where you can send them an IM requesting to become anAdopter.

There is a list, constantly being updated of Adopters. Click on the Adopters link on this page and it will direct you to it. Once you are selected to become an Adopter / Mentor, you will be placed on this list and eligible to adopt a poet. Please be patient if you don't see your name immediately.   The AAP Foundation Website is normally updated on Sunday evenings, California time.

Responsibility of an Adopter / Poet Guardian:

As an Adopter / Mentor, you should spend time with your adopted poet, helping them grow in the world of poetry. You do this by correcting errors, increasing their vocabulary, teaching them new styles, etc. You should add your poet to your favorites list so you can always see their new poetry. When you read a poem, you should always leave a constructive critique. Talk to your poet through IM's, e-mails and comments left on poetry.
