Meeting an old friend at the market 14June08

It was a coincidence to run into an old secondary school classmate at the nasi lemak stall this afternoon. Me in my shorts & T-shirt, just collected my laundry & buying 80cents chicken wings from the nasi lemak stall... haha~ This classmate still looked the same as she did 10 years ago. She used to be one of the more sought after gals in the school, talented & smart & very friendly always. It was great to run into her & catch up. Last time we met was when I was still with JAL & her, with KPMG. Now we'd both moved on, but we both looked happy, so I guess that's all that matters. I like running into old friends like this. Really made my lazy saturday afternoon worth it... I didn't even mind my clothes smelling of oil after we sat down for a 10min extended catch up.

I went for an old friend's concert tonight~ she was raising funds to help her on her trip to LA for a competition. It was a great idea, holding a private concert at a cosy space behind the Substation~ Judy... my dear friend since VJC TSD days~ as she stood on that stage in her Sunday best (i liked the rock look!), singing that familiar Chinese tune, I was suddenly transported back to the days when we were still at school, where Judy was notorious for being herself, speaking her mind, & being one of the most wonderful people I knew. Our batch was unique to other TSD batches... we were not flamboyantly out there strutting our feathers... we were more of a closely knitted family, who had our share of squabbles & tearing each other's face out, but always swearing to be true to ourselves & our art. I was touched by Judy's singing. I can tell she put in alot of effort. Although after the concert she claimed in tears that she felt she only did her 60%; to me 60% was good enough... Thank you Judy for still being you after all these years~ You have my best wishes for LA: put your best foot forward & don't worry about winning or losing~ just making your way there already makes you a winner!!! I'm glad I made it for your concert.

Sometimes we just have to take our chances...

Sex And The City & my Saint Patrick 17June 08

Today is my French teacher's birthday ~ bon anniversaire, Patrick!!! Pat is my favourite French boyfriend~ I always think he has such a way with women, & is naturally popular with friends. But Pat is more than that. He is an extremely gentle and kind soul that's great to talk to because he actually listens. His accent also never fails to make me smile. It's friends like Pat that make me actually want to go out of the house. I wanted to watch Sex And the City with a close friend & it turns out he agreed to accompany me yesterday afternoon. The movie was great, but the company was greater. I promised Pat I would visit him in France soon (I've promised years on end but never really set foot in Europe). I still remember how he told me the best places to go to in France were the gardens & the musuems... & of course the delicious ice-creams. Pat never forgets to bring me the best chocolates in France - Maison Du Chocolat - and this time he even remembered to get me an assortment of solely dark chocolate truffles~ So Pat, thank you for being a great You! Happy birthday!! *opens the wines & pops the champagne* I promise I'll cook for you soon... In the meantime, must come back often to Singapore to see me k? (Pat's Chinese & Singlish & Japanese is really cute too! Jus as is my French?!! Je ne parle pas francais!!)

A Great Night @ Carlton Hotel 21 June 2008

This weekend is special because Janice, my favourite Emirates Stewardess is back in Singapore! & my Sat is devoted to going shopping with her & some heavy fun clubbing at night! Friday night was cake night and we had an awesome time in her hotel room... it was a gathering of old frens... & some new bfs, with special performances, delicious cake & lots of laughs~

I haven't seen Julia & Debbie & Huilin for a while.. Julia brought her bf & so did Sarah... my sister even turned up with a special guest & did a mini concert for Janice in the room! hahha~ (bcoz they didn't bring a present so they had to barter their talent!)

All in all, after most of the guests left, me, Ping, Janice, Sarah & Bryan chatted till 5pm. It's 240pm in the afternoon now & I've managed to do some work in the morning after resting for 5 hours, have my shot of coffee from starbucks & we're heading the orchard shopping streets!!! YESH~ (^0^)Y

Looking forward to clubbin tonight & lunch w Janice's parents tomorrow. Always great to have my most important frens back home to chill with me....

Ok... I'm editing this blog on Sun, just after saying goodbye to Janice~ She's leaving this afternoon for her Colombo flight... So what happened after I logged off yesterday? We went shopping & I ended up being the one buying alot of things!!! I bought clothes from Guess, a stunning pair of silver high heels from J-West, and my biggest prize was a new pair of amazing sunglasses from CHANEL~ My first piece of Chanel & my first pair of glamourous starry shades... and they were so reasonably priced! Definitely a good buy!

So 4 hours after Ader had bought so much stuff and Janice had bought nothing, we headed back to the hotel to rest & get ready for the night. We took a power nap, freshened up while listening to Grasshopper, then changed into our sexy blacks... Then Ping came back from her shopping spree & we all did our make-up, sprayed our perfume & dragged out starving stomachs to Pregos @ Swisshotel for a late dinner. It took us 1 hour to clear the Prego Margarita pizza, Bruschetta & Pasta (which I have forgotten the name of) & we were restless... Sarah had called to say she wouldn't reach Zouk till 12 midnight, so I suggested we go to Boiler Room to watch Emilee's set first. Good choice as we had some good laughs watching Gino disturb the men who were invited up on stage for their birthday "sabo" session... I've watched this a million times, but Gino does it so well with the gay jokes that it's just a great laugh everytime. Emilee did a great hiphop performance with her "Superstar" & it was the first time I saw her in that hippy costume. St James was more entertaining for me than the rest of the night, which we later adjourned to Zouk, which was packed in Phuture, & sparse in Velvet. We ended up downing a few of my favourite Vodka Crystals (ooh...they still taste so good) & then we ended the night early with supper at the coffeeshop next to Allson hotel then Hotel Sweet Hotel...

This morning we woke up after 5 hours of sleep. Janice gave Ping a lift to her office & then we headed back to Jan's house for lunch. Aunty Peggy cooked a great spread of codfish, teriyaki wings, curry veges & lotus root soup. All the dishes were delicious!! Then after watching Jan check her crew schedules for a while my dad drove by to give me a lift home since I was carrying so many things.

I'm getting ready to head off to Siglap CC now. Today we're doing the briefing & item-run for the semi-finalists of bedok superstar. After that, I'll have to start packing for my business trip to Bangkok tomorrow & to complete some work before I board the plane in the morning. 1 weekend of girlpal rejuvenation and it's back to serious business!!! Busy, busy, busy week ahead~

BEDOK SUPERSTAR ROADSHOW 05JULY08

The last time my YEC (Youth Executive Committee Bedok) had a roadshow or carnival at the bedok interchange was more than 2 years ago...going back this weekend to do the bedok superstar publicity roadshow brought back memories of our last activity there, but once the clock struck 430pm, I was so busy setting up, pushing tables, getting ready the lucky dip, picking up phonecalls from the contestants etc that I really had little time to continue my reminiscence. Our guest performers for the day were Nana & Emilee, with host emcee Rahim. Whilst our guest performers strut their stuff onstage with their power vocals, the host interviewed the contestants onstage asking them why they were joining the competition & some exhibitionistic contestants even took their share of 30s to show off their vocals or dance moves. When there was entertainment on stage, crowds gathered to watch of which I targetted to hand them our flyers with the semi-finals details, offering an open invitation for residents in the area to join us next week. When the entertainment onstage ceased, we tried to direct the crowds to our moneyspinning initiative of a lucky dip, as well as the popcorn & candy floss counters. Unfortunately the popcorn and candy floss were not that popular... the sure-win lucky dip was what stole the show, with DVD players & an air ticket to Bangkok, & lots of towels, purses & Bedok Superstar Semi-final tickets up for grabs... The roadshow closed shop at 9pm, 1 hour earlier than we initially planned, but it almost felt like we'd been working there for a full 12hours. Special thanks to my boss who dropped by and ended up assisting us, the volunteers from Serangoon JC with their teacher YongPing, & all my BS committee members. With the roadshow over, the next greater challenge awaits - Bedok Superstar Semi-Finals on the 12 July 2008 (Sat) @ Bedok South near Blk 15 at the wide stage area near the Bedok South Market (opp Temasek JC) - Do come watch the show if you can!! More than 50 great performances will be showcased that night~
