Welcome to My Website. I am standing to be one of your NUS delegates and NUS Scotland delegates. NUS is your national union. It has more than 5 million members. As a delegate I will represent Edinburgh students at NUS conferences. I have been a delegate for the last two years, and have succeeded in pushing for policy to make NUS go Fairtrade, campaign for refugee students, and democratize. Elect me again and I will:
- campaign against all fees and for universal grants
- push for an environmentally friendly, fairtrade NUS
- campaign against HMO quotas, and for affordable housing
- push to get Tennents back
- campaign for refugee students (who are currently charged international student fees)
- push for a more open, democratic NUS
Experience
- I was External Convener last year. The President and I were responsible for dealing with NUS on behalf of Edinburgh students.
- I have been an NUS delegate for the last 2 years. I "seconded" our first motion to NUS since we re-joined, and have successfully campaigned to democratize NUS Scotland.
- I was editor of "Hype".
- I was co-convener of People & Planet - Edinburgh's largest campaigning society, and am, now their Scottish rep.
- I have sat on the Committee of Management and the Finance Committee.
- I helped run Mark Ballard's successful campaign for Rector.
- I have experience volunteering in the Scottish Parliament.
- I proposed the succesful zero waste motion to the Students' Association AGM (see picture)
- I have worked on campaigns as diverse as US, Scottish and UK elections, Top-up fees, human rights, Fairtrade, local housing, Climate Change, 'YES2NUS', student debt, Nestle, the arms trade, and congestion charging. In the latter I represented students in the "Get Edinburgh Moving" steering group, along with Friends of the Earth and other major NGO's.
- Before coming to Edinburgh I worked fundraising for Amnesty International and Concern Worldwide, and walked 2100 miles up the USA.
- I am a fourth year philosophy and politics student. In my spare time I climb, canoe, swing dance, drum, and juggle.
