Minatsu Nakazato
The main character of the story. A gifted softball pitcher and a good cook, she doesn't seem to know or care much about love at first, but slowly learns more about it throughout the series. She is the object of affection of Shuu Akiba and Kanzo Yamazakura, and Naoto Kadomatsu. She dresses up as Maria Sudou occasionally to avoid gangsters and to date Naoto Kadomatsu.
Shuu Akiba
One of the boys chasing after Minatsu Nakazato. Has loved her since childhood, and joins the boxing club of Asaoka High for her. Turns out to be extremely good at boxing, able to dodge almost anything. Talented, rich and smart, he has a rather playful personality, but would do anything to win Minatsu's love. Tends to be a bit of a stalker.
Naoto Kadomatsu
Boxing champion of Jousei High School. Has to leave for America soon, and dreams of becoming world champion, but wants to marry a Japanese girl. Goes around trying to find the right one for him, and settles on Maria Sudou, Minatsu's alternate character. Lives alone in the same apartment complex as the Nakazatos, and gains the approval of Minatsu's father because of his powerful punching.
Kanzo Yamazakura
Coach of both the boxing and girls' softball clubs at Asaoka High. Has a liking for Minatsu. Is a single father, taking care of his deceased sister's daughter Chika. Drives a broken-down car and often gets into accidents. Is the object of affection of Ayako Sawamura and agrees to date her in order to recruit her into the softball club.
Ayako Sawamura
A rough and violent girl who stays mysteriously aloof, she is the only one who can catch Minatsu's pitching. Has a crush on the coach, Kanzo Yamazakura, and manages to get regular dates with him by agreeing to join the softball club.
Chika Yamazakura
Coach Kanzo Yamazakura's niece, whom he takes care of. A bright, sunny girl, who wants him to get married as soon as possible. Not above a little manipulation at times.
Tamio Nakazato
Minatsu's father, and a professional wrestler. Approves of strong men, and likes Naoto Kadomatsu. Encourages Minatsu to find a partner soon.
