Together, they begin their studies as new students in Seishuu High School, along with talented pitcher Eiji Kurahashi. But on their first day, they come across a crying girl. They later find out that she is Yuri Nakao, daughter of the baseball team's coach, who will be fired if the team continues to do badly. Even though Niimi and Karasawa have no experience in baseball, they decide to join the baseball team to help Yuri. Thus begins a three-year journey of high school baseball, full of laughter, tears, and love.

Review:
Nine is the manga series that first made Adachi famous. As such, it is one of the most important ones to read if you are a true Adachi fan. Featuring the rather simplistic artwork of his early years, it nevertheless contains the initial character archetypes that become more prominent and refined in later series. The story of Nine is perhaps one of the most complete, tying everything up in a nice, neat package... a rarity considering Adachi's penchant for rather open endings. With less drama and plot twists than his later works, it is told as a series of straightforward snapshots of life in high school - a style that will eventually make him famous. If you are new to Adachi, Nine is a good series to read as a short and sweet introduction to his works.
