Summary:
Jinpei Takanashi has always gone by the nickname "Jinbe" (shark). He works in an aquarium, and was a former legendary goalkeeper in his high school soccer days. He is also living with Miku, his adopted daughter-by-marriage, since his wife passed away 3 years ago. As Miku grows up into a woman as beautiful as her mother was, the most popular guy in school tries to date her and her real father wants to take her back - both of which makes Jinbe feel jealous. A short story about the love that can exist between a father and a daughter who are not related by blood.
Review:
Jinbe perhaps is one of the more subtle and "literary" pieces of Adachi's work, focused very much on what lies underneath, and the romantic feelings that nobody ever shows. Possibly the most "dangerous" of Adachi's mangas in terms of choice of topic, Jinbe treads lightly around the possibility of incest, never descending into vulgarity or crudity. Nevertheless, the romance is there, if one can see and appreciate it. Also, many of the pages are in full colour, which is a bit of a bonus. A short, deep tale that has one of the most open endings in Adachi's work, but enjoyable nevertheless.

 Jinpei Takanashi
The main male character of the series. He is in his late thirties - almost 40 years old, and works in an aquarium. Goes by the nickname "Jinbe" (shark). Was a legendary goalkeeper in his high school days. Married Miku's mother Rikako 4 and a half years ago, and mourned her 3 years ago. Once fought over Rikako's love with his sempai, Miyage, and lost. Loves Miku.
 Miku Takanashi
A 17-year-old girl about to finish high school. Lives alone with her stepfather Jinpei. Constantly rebuffing the advances of Jinishi, the popular soccer striker in her school. Earns pocket money through being an amateur photographer. Tender-hearted and quietly feminine. Takes after her mother a lot.
 Jinishi
The most popular member of the high school soccer team. Quite openly presumptuous about declaring his romantic pursuit in Miku, even going so far as spreading rumours about dating Miku, and calling Jinpei father-in-law.
 Miyage
Miku's birth father, who neglected his family to pursue his business nine years ago, and caused Miku's mother to divorce him. Was a senior to Jinpei in high school, and part of the soccer team too. A rich businessman now, he wants Miku to come and stay with him, and is actively trying to treat her like a real father again.
