Summary:
Hiro and Hideo are the closest of friends. Hiro is an ace baseball pitcher, and Hideo is an unbelievable batter. But Hiro's doctor orders him to stop playing, as he is endangering his elbow if he continues. Trying to forget his greatest love, Hiro enrols in Senkawa High School, which has no baseball team, while Hideo goes to Meiwa High, which has one of the best teams in the country. But when Hiro finds out that his doctor was a quack, and his arm is not in danger anymore, he realises that this is the chance for the two best friends to finally meet on the playing field in a showdown. To further complicate matters, Hiro seems to be in love with both Haruka, who helps him form Senkawa's first baseball team, and Hikari, his childhood friend who just happens to be Hideo's girlfriend. This series chronicles the road to the final showdown between Hideo and Hiro - in baseball, and in love.

Review:
H2 is by far the longest of Adachi's works, and arguably the most dramatic. While the romantic tension never reaches the same height as that between the two brothers in Touch, it does come a very close second. Romantics will enjoy the complex relationships and feelings that exist between the four main characters. And sports fans will be delighted. Adachi goes all out to create his ultimate baseball epic in H2, with a great variety of lovable characters in the Senkawa baseball team, and a whole host of opponents for both teams to face as they struggle to meet in open competition. If you love baseball, this is the series for you.

Was a star pitcher in middle school, but a doctor's order put an end to his greatest love - baseball. Joined Senkawa High School in order to forget it, and met Haruka Koga. Had been friends with Hikari Amamiya since childhood. A very charismatic and determined, though slightly perverted, young man.

Hideo Tachibana Hideo Tachibana
The other of the two heroes of H2. Best friends with Hiro Kunimi, who had been on the same middle school baseball team with him, and currently cleanup hitter of Meiwa High School. Is the boyfriend of Hikari Amamiya. A strong-willed, serious young man who has absolute faith in his friends, and wants to challenge Hiro in the field. Immensely susceptible to alcohol, a family failing.

Hikari Amamiya Hikari Amamiya
Hiro's childhood friend and Hideo's girlfriend. A very beautiful and determined girl, who always seems to know exactly what she wants, but often hides her feelings. Takes up archery as a hobby. Dreams of becoming a sports writer someday in the future.

Haruka Koga Haruka Koga

A gentle, affectionate girl, who is usually quite open about her feelings.

Often quite wise, and acts as a sounding board to Hiro's ideas, but has a weakness for making lame jokes with double entendres.

Ryutaro Kine Ryutaro Kine
A star soccer striker when Hiro first joins the soccer team. A loud-mouthed, arrogant show-off who pursues Haruka, and makes fun of the baseball club initially. Was a talented pitcher himself in childhood, but got ousted from his Little League team to make way for Hideo to join. Likes to boast a lot. Eventually plays centrefielder, leadoff hitter, and backup pitcher for the Senkawa baseball team.

Morimichi Yanagi Morimichi Yanagi

Fujio Koga Fujio Koga

The coach for Eikyo Academy, the strongest baseball team in Senkawa's region. Known as the Great Commander. Has had one spring and two summer Koshien victories under his belt. Katsutoshi Hirota Katsutoshi Hirota
Ace pitcher for Eikyo Academy, and Hiro's main rival within the region. A cold, cunning baseball player with perfect control who will do anything to win, including spying, sabotage, and deliberately crippling important members of the other teams. Cousin to Fumio Ohtake and Osamu Shima.

Fumio Ohtake Fumio Ohtake
One of Katsutoshi Hirota's cousins, who joins Senkawa High School a year after Hiro. Was formerly part of the boxing team. Another of Katsutoshi Hirota's cousins, who joins Senkawa High School at the same time as Ohtake, a year junior to Hiro. Was sent to sabotage the Senkawa High School baseball team during the regional tournament. A former track and field sprinter, with a bad reputation of sabotaging the competition beforehand. Possibly the fastest person on the team.
