Summary:
Koh Kitamura is the son of a family that runs a sporting goods centre, and happens to be a rather good salesman. In his free time, he likes to go over to the neighbourhood batting centre to hit baseballs. The batting centre is run by the Tsukishima family, which consists of a father and four sisters. Wakaba Tsukishima, the second eldest, was born on the exact same day as Koh, and already treats him like a boyfriend-to-be, whereas Aoba Tsukishima, the third-born, rather dislikes Koh for taking her sister away. But when a twist of fate happens, all of their lives are changed, and Koh gets a new dream - to pitch at the Koshien.

Review:
Since Cross Game has only recently begun, nothing much can be said about it yet, but several plot elements have already come into play - most noticeable of which is the dramatic twist at the end of the first volume. The interactions between the main characters have yet to be fully-fleshed out, but we are already seeing signs of love, of hatred, rivalry and admiration. Cross Game is shaping up to be another wonderful Adachi drama, perhaps a successor to his tradition of great baseball mangas such as Touch and H2.

Cross Game Characters

Koh Kitamura Koh Kitamura
The main male character of the series. Son of a sporting goods store, and gets extra allowance by boosting sales, so becomes a rather good salesman. Very competitive by nature, but rather unfocused as yet. Born on the same day as Wakaba Tsukishima, and likes her a lot. Has a natural talent for baseball, but isn't aware of it. Good friends with Nakanishi.

Wakaba Tsukishima Wakaba Tsukishima
Second daughter of the Tsukishima family, exactly the same age as Koh. Treats him like her boyfriend-to-be, and isn't afraid or ashamed to show it, despite it embarrassing Koh occasionally. Is closest to her younger sister Aoba, but is open and friendly to all. Is the object of affection of Akaishi and Koh.

Aoba Tsukishima Aoba Tsukishima
Third daughter of the Tsukishima family, a year younger than Koh and Wakaba. Loves her elder sister very much, and even snuggles up to her in bed. Has a rather antagonistic attitude towards Koh. Is a very talented pitcher, who has been taught by her father. Tomboyish and outspoken, and terrible at cooking.

Momiji Tsukishima Momiji Tsukishima
Youngest daughter of the Tsukishima family. Tends to be quite caring and respectful of her elder sisters, but is sometimes ignored by them. Likes Koh a lot, and talks to him when her sisters are too busy. Treats him like an older brother.

Ichiyo Tsukishima Ichiyo Tsukishima
Eldest of the Tsukishima daughters, by far. Tries to fill the place and duties of her mother after she had passed away. Takes care of her younger sisters in general, and Momiji in particular. Also runs the coffee shop adjacent to the batting centre, as another form of income. Has a bit of a temper. Treats Koh like a younger brother, and is quite nice to him.

Nakanishi Nakanishi
Koh's close friend since elementary school, and one of the people he convinced to form a baseball team in order to buy uniforms from Kitamura Sports Centre. Loves the sport, and is quite a good fighter too. Protective of Koh when he encounters threats or bullying. Has a mutual respect for Akaishi, due to a shared past.

Akaishi Akaishi
Son of the liquor store owner, and a very good baseball pitcher and catcher. Has a crush on Wakaba Tsukishima and initially dislikes Koh because of how Wakaba treats him. Best fighter in the school.

Keiichiro Senda Keiichiro Senda
Ace pitcher for the Seishu Academy Middle School baseball team, where Koh, Aoba, Akaishi and Nakanishi are. Not very talented, but thinks he is. Tends to suck up to his seniors and generally says a lot but does little. Likes Aoba Tsukishima and tries to get her to date him. Views Koh as a friend, even though it's one-sided.

Seiji Tsukishima Seiji Tsukishima
A widower of some years, and father of the Tsukishima family. Runs a batting centre and a cafe next to it, and gets his daughters to help out. Was a former Koshien catcher in his youth, and taught Aoba how to pitch.

Kensaku Kitamura Kensaku Kitamura
Koh's father. Runs the Kitamura Sports Centre, which sells sporting goods, and sometimes gets Koh to work for him. Is very much like Koh in his ability to manipulate people.
