Acura Integra

The Acura Integra was launched in 1986 as part of the brand new Acura division of Honda.

1991-The second generation of the Acura Integra began with the all new 1991 Acura Integra, offered as both a three door hatchback and a four door sedan. Both were offered in RS, LS, and top of the line GS trim. All three came with a high reving 1.8 liter in-line four cylinder engine rated at 130 bhp.

Engines: 1.8 I4 130 bhp @ 6000 rpm, 121 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm.
Performance: .

1992-The 1992 Acura Integra received 10 more horsepower under the hood, but the big news was the introduction of a new high performance GS-R trim. The GS-R came standard with a 1.7 I4 with VTEC technology, a 8000 rpm redline, and cranked out 160 bhp. A manual transmission was standard; no automatic was available. The GS-R was only available in three colors: red, white, and teal, and came fully loaded.

Engines: 1.8 I4 140 bhp @ 6300 rpm, 126 lb-ft @ 5000 rpm. 1.7 I4 160 bhp @ 7600 rpm, 117 lb-ft @ 7000 rpm.

1993-The 1993 Acura Integra was basically carried over from the year before. A leather interior was now standard on the GS-R.

1994-Saw new styling and a new high performance trim for the Acura Integra. Up front was a new distinctive front end with four projector type headlights. The sheetmetal gained a more aerodynamic look (and lower drag). Under the hood, the standard engine received 2 more horsepower. But the top of the line GS-R received a new engine, a 170 bhp version of the 1.8 liter I4 engine. Utilizing Acura's patented VTEC system, this engine was had the highest output per liter of any normally aspirated engine on the US market.

Engines: RS,LS: 1.8 I4 142 bhp @ 6300 rpm, 127 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm. GS-R: 1.8 I4 170 bhp @ 7600 rpm, 128 lb-ft @ 6200 rpm.

1995-The 1995 Acura Integra was basically carried over from the year before.

1997-The big news for 1997 was the introduction of the limited edition Acura Integra Type R, which would begin a legacy that has yet to fade. The Type R was a no excuses race car, with a heavily modified naturally aspirated 195 bhp 1.8 liter engine, more horsepower per liter than any normally aspirated mass produced engine in the US. In addition, the Type R lost 93 pounds by using lightweight parts and getting rid of the sunroof, air conditioner, and sound deadening. The Type R also came with new front and rear spoilers, light weight aluminum alloy wheels and sport-style seats. It also came in only one color, Championship White, and the performance tires were only good for around 15,000 miles. Only 500 were sold in the US.

Engines: RS,LS: 1.8 I4 142 bhp @ 6300 rpm, 127 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm. GS-R: 1.8 I4 170 bhp @ 7600 rpm, 128 lb-ft @ 6200 rpm. Type R: 1.8 I4 195 bhp @ 8000 rpm, 129 lb-ft @ 7300 rpm.

1998-The Integra carried over for 1998 and that meant the return of the Type R. It soften just a little bit with a standard rear wiper, but air conditioning was still unavailable from the factory, and it still only came in white.

Engines: RS,LS: 1.8 I4 142 bhp @ 6300 rpm, 127 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm. GS-R: 1.8 I4 170 bhp @ 7600 rpm, 128 lb-ft @ 6200 rpm. Type R: 1.8 I4 195 bhp @ 8000 rpm, 130 lb-ft @ 7500 rpm.

1999-The Type R did not return for 1999, leaving the remaining GS-R to carry the Integra performance banner..

Engines: RS,LS: 1.8 I4 142 bhp @ 6300 rpm, 127 lb-ft @ 5200 rpm. GS-R: 1.8 I4 170 bhp @ 7600 rpm, 128 lb-ft @ 6200 rpm

2000-The big news for 2000 was the return of the Type R. The Type R had become a little more mature (some would say fat) during its vacation and now had standard air conditioning. It was available only in black or yellow. This would be the highest sales year for Type Rs, with 1,250 sold.

Engines: GS-R: 1.8 I4 170 bhp @ 7600 rpm, 128 lb-ft @ 6200 rpm. Type-R: 195 bhp @ 8000 rpm, 130 lb-ft @ 7500 rpm.

2001-The Acura Integra was a complete carryover from 2000. The Integra is due to be replaced by the RSX in the summer of 2001.
