Scotia Drama Club

The Scotia-Glenville High School has a Drama Club that performs shows every fall and spring.  In each fall, the club puts on a nonmusical show.  And in the spring, a musical is put on.  The musicals are much more popular with the community but we want to increase interest in the fall shows, too.

Fall 2002 "Harvey"

In the fall of 2002, the Drama club performed "Harvey," an older play that was made a movie starring Jimmy Stewart.  The cast was small but everyone got along.  The show is about a man, Elwood P. Dowdm, who befriends a six-foot tall "invisble" rabbit, Harvey.  The conflicts occur in Dr. Chumley's asylum, where Elwood's sister Veta Louise Simmons is trying to commit him.  There is also a love story between two employees of the asylum; Dr. Sanderson and Nurse Kelly.

Spring 2003 "South Pacific"

This show has a large cast and was fun to perform.  "South Pacific" is a Rodgers and Hammerstein love story surronding diversity issues.  Can there be love between people of different races?  This show centers itself around the love between Frenchman, Emile de Becque and American, Nellie Forbush.  Surrounding this love is the occupation of the US military in the South Pacific.  American Lt. Joseph Cable and Polynesian Liat find forbidden love in the South Pacific, as well.  Luther Billis and his buddies are home-sick and longing for women.

Fall 2003 "Don't Drink the Water"

This is a Woody Allen comedy.  The story revolves around the Hollander family, Walter Marion and their daughter, Susan.  They are trapped inside the American embassy of Russia.  The embassy at the time is being run by the Ambassador's bumbling son, Axel Magee.

Other characters include:
Ms. Kilroy- the Ambassador's uptight, pompous assitant.
Father Drobney- a Russian priest seeking asylum in the embassy who has a hobby of magic at which he is not very good at.  He is also the narrator.
Krojack- the persistent KGB agent out to get the Hollanders out of the embassy and killed.
Chef- a diva at her trade and very emotional towards her cooking.

Spring 2004 "Damn Yankees"

This musical is based on Douglass Wallop's novel, The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant.  It is about an old Washington Senators fan, Joe Boyd, who sells his soul to the devil to become a star baseball player, Joe Hardy, who leads his team to win the pennant.  The devil, known as Mr. Applegate, has his own plans in mind and is willing to twist the deal so that he can get as many souls as he can out of it.  During the season, a nosey reporter, Gloria Thorpe, bugs team manager, Van Buren and Mr. Applegate to get the scoop on the new baseball phenom, Joe Hardy.  To keep Hardy distracted from his game, Applegate brings in his best seductress, Lola.

Others characters include:
Meg Boyd - Joe Boyd's loving wife who ends up renting a room to Joe Hardy.
Sister and Doris - two of Meg's friends and die hard fans of the Senators and Joe Hardy.
Rocky, Smokey, Linville, Henry, Sohovik, Leroy, Sam, Lowe, Raul - members of the Senators.
Mr. Welch - Owner of the Senators.
Miss Lynch - Gloria's snooping accomplice.
Postmistress - A witness as to Joe Hardy's identity.
Commissioner - the name describes the role.

Fall 2004 - Dracula

This is a play based on Bram Stoker's novel, of the same title.  The version we performed, did not stick closely to the novel, however.
