I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.

Our ACT NOW Chapter began in 1974 as Tri-Valley NOW and has continued to take action locally to support:

• Safe and legal abortion, reproductive health care and education, and the availability of effective birth control.

• The elimination of sex-based wage and employment discrimination.

• Adequate, affordable, quality child care and paid job-secured parental leave.

• Equal education and Title IX enforcement.

• Freedom for lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender people to responsibly determine their own lifestyles, having protection against discrimination, and having the full rights and responsibilities of marriage.

• Freedom from sexual harassment.

• A federal Equal Rights Amendment.

We welcome members from Pleasanton, Livermore, Hayward, Fremont, Union City, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Dublin, Newark, Castro Valley, and Sunol.
