Region VI
KCACTF
State Chair Responsibilities

The Minimum requirements for a state chair include the following:
  • Attend any meeting associated with the regional committee (“usually” a meeting at the beginning of the school year – sometimes held in conjunction with the first festival in the region, deliberation weekend, and any meetings/gatherings at the regional festival)
  • Seek applicants for a vice-chair for one’s respective state.
  • Seek and secure host schools for state festivals.
  • Oversee and uphold the regulations of the Kennedy Center
  • Attend an agreed upon number of state festivals within the region.  Attendance at the festival also includes participation in the awards ceremony and certain other duties and obligations at each festival.  The regional committee members are serving as ambassadors for KCACTF and Region VI.
  • Be available for a reasonable number of on-site visits to view and respond to participating entries.
  • Collect materials from the nominated productions within the state, which one represents for the deliberation process.
  • Present all nominated productions within one’s own state (with support of a vice-chair or designated committee member if necessary) to the regional committee at the deliberation weekend.  Deliberation weekend includes the requirement of watching the full 30-minute tape of every nominated production, which one did not see at a festival.
  • Find faculty respondents for the preliminary and semi-final Irene Ryan rounds.
  • Assist with any and all functions at the regional festival as deemed necessary and assigned by the Regional Chair and Vice-Chair.
  • Conduct a state KCACTF meeting (this will vary from state to state)
  • Contact/recruit institutions for participation in KCACTF
  • Assist the Regional Chair in collecting state fees ($100.00) from all state festival participating productions.
  • The commitment to this endeavor is 2 years as vice-chair and 2 years as chair (or whatever has been established in one’s state – some states may have a 3 and 3 commitment).
  • At state festivals make contact with every director after their production to offer support for entering their show.
  • While attending performances, you must stay for the entirety of every production.
  • Finding respondents for Associate productions will be the responsibility of state chairs in conjunction with the regional chair.
