Since 1998, Aikido Center of South Texas has been providing Aikido instruction in the Rio Grande Valley area. Aikido Center of South Texas is located at 319 W. Tom Landry Street, Mission, Texas 78572.
In 2008, Tim Kikos Sensei, opened a second location in Harlingen, Texas. This newest location is in downtown Harlingen in a judo training hall. The address is 516 W. Van Buren. Come join the new classes on the following days: Monday 5:30 - 7:00 pm / Wednesday 7:00 - 8:30 pm at a cost of Students $25 / Adults $50 a month.

 Instructors

Our instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Aikido and other martial arts. They have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers.

Through extensive training, testing and certification, our staff has attained proficiency in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to our students. Our instructors are required to attend no less than four yearly training sessions with high ranking instructors.  


Joe Cavazos

Joe Cavazos, is Chief Instructor of Aikido Center of South Texas and currently holds the rank of Yondan (4th degree black belt) from SAC and Tanakaha, and Nidan from the Aikikai. His primary influence was from the late Bill Sosa Sensei (1934-2002), founder of International Aikido Association (IAA). He continues as a student of Hiroshi Kato Shihan, Suginami Aikikai, Tokyo, Japan. Cavazos currently leads a group of dojos in Northern Mexico and South Texas under Shudokan Aikido Association. Cavazos considers himself an aikidoka, despite having trained in several martial art forms.


Cavazos Sensei was recognized by the Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame Texas Martial Arts Hall of Fame on May 15, 2004 and recognized in Who's Who in Martial Arts for his contribution to the martial arts. Cavazos Sensei was installed in the Hawaiin Society of Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2006.

Timothy Kikos - Head Instructor

Tim currently holds the rank of shodan (1st degree black belt) from the Aikikai. Tim is the head instructor at the Mission dojo in the absence of the Chief Instructor and runs his own satellite dojo in Harlingen, Texas. He has been active in attending our regional seminars as well as traveling extensively to seminars with our head instructor, Hiroshi Kato from Tokyo, Japan
