( and some Radio Amateur stuff thrown in as well ! ) - SEE DISCLAIMER AT THE BOTTOM OF PAGE FIRST please.
Some information on building Colinear antennas for WI-FI use, as well as some other info for wi-fi experimenters. This page has been lost for a few years but thanks to http:// web.acrhive.org I recovered this and a few more things i thought I lost. (awesome size data bank)
Build a Composting toilet, save tens of thousands of litres of fresh clean drinking water every year per household, reduce waterway and ocean pollution, and produce something useful as well.
Build a 9 dB ,70cm, Coaxial Colinear Antenna - I scoured the net looking for coaxial colinears and found nothing, the ARRL antenna handbook has something, but I was given this old article which is better, by N1HFX ( formulas are given if you wish to change the frequency, add or delete 1/2 wavelength sections for your gain required )
Build a crystal set, there is even a slope detector version for FM, with links to lots more information.
Here is some useful information for the owners of RT85 transceivers - An article roughly outlining how it works and how to reprogram the eprom.
A few pages on Understanding Batteries, covering lead acid , nicads , lithium types , fuel cells , thermo-chemical storage with ammonia and links to lots more information.
Some ideas in Building a Well Designed House- by careful designing , a lot of energy can be conserved and your comfort level can be increased.
The whys and hows of Hot Water Systems, a short tutorial on how to build your own system discussing why things are done a particular way
A short article on Water Pumping- some "alternate" solutions and a small DC pump and controller to build from recycled parts.
Some notes on Amateur station earthing and EMP suppression, - suggestions on how to minimize equipment spikes etc.
Build a Solar powered Electric Fence - This is built up with an aircraft magneto and bits and pieces which is driven by the effects of the wind.
Build a Bi-Pod powered generator, This came about many years ago when my wife requested an exercise bike, and I couldn't resist the idea of her generating power.
I have started building a Vertical axis Windgenerator - This project actually started before the savonius rotor and has undergone several major re-designs as I learned more! (Hopefully it won't be a fizzer! )
How to build a Savonius rotor generator, This is an easy to build generator using 3 , 44 gallon drums driving a DC generator . The output isn't high, but it's use of all winds, durability, low cost and easy fabrication make it worth looking at.
Build yourself a Maximum power point tracker - This project will allow you to get a bit more efficiency out of that solar panel at a small cost.
There are several Regulators and small battery chargers, to build to stop overcharging your battery bank and keep your batteries nicely charged .
Build yourself an inverter 12 or 24v fluorescent light , or perhaps a "solar lantern" or "LED" torch. There is also some info on superbright L.E.D.'s.
A collection of " Level " indicators , circuits to build with the "alternate energy" person in mind.
An opening page for Alternate Energy and Lifestyles , suggesting things to try and providing a large link database to people with good projects or ideas.
A short article on " Alternate Energy and Life-styles ", examining some of the problems, what is needed to set up an alternate energy system, and descriptions on various Solar Products.
A short article on Car Alternators , repairing, modifications, some performance data.
A charger for those cheap " Battery Drills etc " , which will run off your battery bank or a solar panel.
An article on Parabolic Reflectors , guiding you on the construction of a parabolic dish or trough. My own concentrating parabolic solar trough is not too far away. . . .
A short article on understanding Electronic and electrical, drawings and circuits. This may help people from all walks of life build and try electronic projects they have seen. With time this will be extended .
An article on Refrigeration , with information on how it works and why , some different ways to keep things cool and some alternatives to refrigeration which might help alternate energy people - under construction, more coming.
An article on building a Pump Controller, to drive a DC pump directly from a solar panel.
A compelling article on Bio and Nuclear weapons , with tips on how to build your own fallout shelter. Information on what to store up on, a selection of thank-you cards to give to your favourite politician, and 37 different positions on how to kiss your arse goodbye. Will be extended if time permits. . . . . . . . . .
An article on building a Desulphationer for Lead Acid batteries ( battery maximiser) , and some info on pulse chargers.
An article on Titania Dye Sensitized Solar cells , with proceedures and links to help you build a cell for experimentation. A large version could be fabricated for alternate energy use, or this could be ideal as a school project because it ties in chemistry, physics and many of the processes of our world.
Build a 12 to 24 volt solar panel converter to enable a single 12v solar panel to charge a 24v battery bank.
An small article on Field Strength Meters , with 4 versions to build, or a 50 ohm dummy load to build. Some useful links and some links for experimeters of 2.4Ghz computer network cards.
Build a 12 or 24 volt AT or ATX PC power supply to run a computer anywhere. Car mp3s, remote telementry, video processing and storage, USB video alarm systems, what ever and where ever.
A project to Disconnect a battery supply , when the voltage falls below a preset limit. Uses could be found in solar installations, cars or campers etc (to save your battery from damage or have enough reserve energy to start the car).
Build a FET DC PWM controller to control high power to motors, lights or whatever.
A project to build a Mains Filter and Surge Suppressor , This could prove useful in saving your home entertainment system and might save you hundreds of dollars in repairs or replacement. It could be useful down the ham shack too, or to keep the computer and your data from being destroyed from surges.
A quick and easy battery Load tester to build using stuff from the junk box. This unit will test 12 and 6 volt batteries quickly and should prove very useful to alternate energy people, boaties and so on.
