When you download something, your computer takes tiny bits of information from the website until the whole thing is downloaded. It's almost like trying to scoop out all the water from a bucket with a teaspoon. What this program does is virtually change that "teaspoon" you download with to a big "cup".
In the registry, this size is kept as "GlobalMax TCP Window Size" and "TCP Window Size" and its default value of 8,192 which is optimized for Dial-up. The correct amount of most broadband connections today is at least 170,000. In general, larger receive windows will improve performance over high delay, high bandwidth networks. Reducing the TCP Window size effectively causes an acknowledgment to be sent to the sender for data received sooner. This will lower the possibility that the sender will time out while waiting for an acknowledgment. However it will also increase the amount of network traffic and cause slower throughput. You should see an average of 42% increase in download speed, although some buyers have reported increased speeds up to 12000%.
