I started construction on my garden railway a few months back. The layout was not contstructed from plans but just by an idea in my head. The land has a slope of about 200 mm from top to botom so to keep the track as level as posible it was dug in at the top of the garden and raised above ground at the botom. It was laid around and existing garden bed so that the track has followed a lot of the garden edge.
The first picture is the first basic layout in which I included a fiberglass water feature we found on special so decided to incorporat it into the design making a a hill from the areas we dug out anto also create a lake with a pump to pump water upto the water feature and thus creating a river for the water to flow back into the lake.
I built a bridge from 10mm square tube to cross this small river.
The track is layed out using brick pavers and then concreted in place.

This Video was taken when I started the layout. It has changed a little since then as I moved the tunel back and built the water feature and pond.
Over the Christmas break I completed the building of the pond and have sorted out the leak problem. I will now have to work on concreting the rest of the track layout which will keep the grass from growing through the track
