GIRLS STATE

5/22/2009- At day one of the IHSA Girls State Meet Sonya Steder ended her stellar ACC career and season in the High Jump. She had a strong start, but hit a slight patch and no heighted. Sonya is definetely one of the better multi-event athletes to don the Charger uniform. Coach Kerber was quoted as saying that, "It's been a total honor to have Sonya at ACC and we know that she will go on to a great career at Benedictine University next year!" The other stalwart, junior, Natalie Perry, raced a PR in the open 200 at 26.60 but didn't advance. Kerber commented, "Her experience here will pay dividends for Natalie next year in which we think will be a great senior year!"

ACC CHARGERS GOING TO THE STATE

 FINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5/22/2009 - ACC Track is back on the map with State qualifications for the Lady Chargers and the boys in Class 2A! On the boys' side, the Chargers have now qualified athletes or relays for the IHSA State Meet for the 17th year in a row! ACC has amassed tons of state qualifiers and All-State athletes since 1993!  The men hit paydirt in traditional fashion by qualifying in the 3200 and 1600 relays. ACC Men have had a rich tradition in those relays highlighted by a state title in 1979! ACC has also had numerous All-State appearances including 3rds in the 3200 relay in 1998, and 2003. Eric Edmonds, Nick Aloisio, David Mathew, and Brian Grismer also had a school record performance in 2004 in the 1600 relay!

Leading the way to Charleston in the 4x8 is Dan Kottkamp, Jimmy Spencer, Ben Garcia, and John Jochum. Also on that squad are sophomore Joe Reuland, junior Alan Maddock, and freshmen Alex Duncan. The 1600 relay quartet will be led by Garcia who sports a 50 flat opening leg, versatile senior Garrett McCarthy, Cisco "Kid" Carmona, and Kottkamp. A key to the 4x4 sectional race was not only a great start but also implementing fresh legs with Garrett and Cisco. McCarthy made a key move to get the inside lane and Carmona opened a gap on the Riverside-Brookfield runner to enable Kottkamp to seal the deal! Rounding out that relay are Mike Reuland, Kendall Reed, and Dhruv Patel. Both relays were runner up to 2A Power Glenbard South, one of the largest schools in 2A at 1,600 enrollment to tiny upstart ACC at 490!

ACC RETURNS TO CHICAGO CHRISTIAN AND REKINDLES FOND MEMORIES

4/12/2009-

The ACC Charger Track teams returned to Chicago Christian H.S. for a competitive triangular meet with the Knights and current SCC rival Saint Francis. The trip to Palos Heights rekindled some great memories of past Charger performances when ACC was a former member of the PSL Conference from 1968 thru 1997 during Coach Regnier and Coach Kerber's reign with the program! At Chicago Christian's top-notch, state of the art track, memories of many great athletes emerged and served as a type of homecoming for Coach Kerber since ACC has not competed there since 1997. In what was considered one of the greatest years in the rich history of PSL Track, ACC led the way with the likes of Erasmo Navar and Coach Ray Villa. Navar ran 49 for the 400 and placed 2nd in the state that year and also had an all-state performance in the 200! Coach Ray Villa was part of an ACC contingent that earned all-state honors in the 3200 relay! Almost every event that year was represented in the finals by a PSL school and athlete.

On to the meet: Wheaton St. Francis was late getting there and missed the 3200 relay, but, nonetheless, competed very well. Their boys team won the meet with 71 points, ACC had 61 and Chicago Christian had 45. Girls scores were not made available as of the posting of this article. ACC, which was just starting spring break, was a little depleted. However, they still posted encouraging performances. The ever improving Joe Reuland won 3 events the 110 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles and the High Jump! Cisco Carmona won the 400, Adam Blake the Discus, and the 1600 relay team of Ben Garcia, Kendall Reed, Dan Kottkamp, and John Jochum rolled! Other top finishes were turned in by 2nd place finishers Jimmy Spencer (3200 and 1600 runs), Blake in the Shot Put, Jochum in the 800, and the frosh-soph 3200 relay of Reed, Shane Samuels, Max Abens, and German Arroyo. Dan Kottkamp took 3rd in the 800 and Ben Garcia took the same place in the 100.

The Lady Chargers, who were extremely depleted, competed well. Natalie Perry won the 200, placed 2nd in the 100, and was part of the 1st place 1600 relay team along with NIcole Bohr, Jacquelyn Nagel, and Sonya Steder, who opened with a 65 leg! Other top finishes were posted by Bohr in the 800, Jordan Clifton in the Shot Put, and Bailey Shemenski in the 3200 and 1600 runs. Next season, ACC,Wheaton St. Francis, and Chicago Christian will be reunited in the newly formed Suburban Christian Conference!

CHARGER TRACK TEAMS BEGIN

WHAT COULD BE PROMISING SEASONS!

3/3/2009 -

The ACC Boys and Girls Track Teams have started the 2009 season with a total of 82 athletes in the program! The latest edition of ACC Track bolsters a nice combination of experienced upperclassmen to go with some talented newcomers on both squads.  The Lady Chargers boast the return of some stellar stand-outs, led by all-purpose runner junior Natalie Perry. According to Coach Troy Kerber, "Perry has the potential to state qualify this year in at least 3 events. She is capable of running sub 2:20 for the 800, sub 60 for the 400, and sub 27 for the 200! She will also be part of a 3200 relay team that could continue the great tradition of Charger 3200 relay teams! A SUB 10?" Also returning to that relay are sophomores Alexis Anthony, who, like Perry, has unbelievable range of racing, Jacquelyn Nagel, and the front runner for the next spot could be the ever improving Nicole Bohr! Also adding to the 800-1600 depth will be Sophomore Allison Alosio, senior Meghan Kelly, and freshman Anna Sestak. In the 3200-1600 look for promise from top freshmen Bailey Shemenski, Amanda Contreras, and Jenny Gulzynski. The sprints will be led by seniors Sonya Steder and Victoria Zapata. These two, along with Perry and Anthony will be a returning 800 relay team that could go sub 1:49! Adding depth to the sprints and relays will be freshmen Katie Colyer, Ashley Wilk, Jennifer Brouch, and Bianca Guzaldo. The jumps will be led by Steder and Wilk with Guzaldo in the Pole Vault.  Hurdles are led by junior Lauren Buba, senior Emily Kawa, and Megan Sickle. The throwers feature 9 athletes and have a tremendous upside. They are led by senior Mayra Garcia, sophomore Jessica Wesley, and top freshmen Kaitlin Rosa, and Jordan Clifton. The girls are capable of becoming a force at the SCC Finals, the Glenbard South Sectional, and the Class 2A State Finals!

The boys are led by top returnee Anthony Kelley in the High Jump and Hurdles. According to Coach Troy Kerber, "Kelley is capable of eclipsing the 6'-06" mark in the High Jump!" Other returnees in the hurdles and jumps are Mike and Joe Reuland along with 300 meter hurdle specialist junior Matt Hearne. Senior Phil Karafiat returns looking for success in the Pole Vault after ascending 12'-00" in summer training!  ACC has had a great tradition in the middle distance and distances and will be led by "Super Sophomore" Jimmy Spencer in the 3200 and 1600. According to Coach Kerber, "Jimmy has a tremendous work ethic that will continue to take him to the next level! He is capable of running sub 10 for the 3200!" Also running the 3200 will be junior John Cisneros and freshman Alex Duncan who both had a great winter of training.  Other top returnees include 800 specialists John Jochum (2:05 PR),  Garrett McCarthy (sub 2:03), and, top newcomer, junior Manny Sauceda.  A marquee relay could be the 4x400, which has many potential candidates!  Added depth in the 800 & 400 will be led by potential sub 52 guy Ben Garcia along with sophomores Kendall Reed, Max Abens, and Nolan McCue. The lower sprints are led by seniors Dhruv Patel and Cisco Carmona. Also, look for junior Dakota Lewis to go along with Garcia in the sprint relays. Freshman Mike Gulzynski and sophomores Dominic Khractus, Louis LaRocco, and Luis Hizo also add depth to the program! The throwers are led by top returnee junior Jason Marchis (Shot Put 50'-00"), Mario Alaniz, and top sophomore, Adam Blake.  The boys team is a force in the making! By the end of the year they could be strong in the SCC, the Glenbard South Sectional, and State!
