Running Central Catholic

2009 Cross Country

ALUMNI MIDSEASON UPDATE

10/13/2009

Aurora Central Catholic Alumni are running hard all over the country! Jenny Lindsay is tearing it up at Florida Tech. James Sobucki is in Iowa at St. Ambrose University, Tony Karafiat is in Washington at Gonzaga University, while locals Stacy and Gina Aloisio are at Benedictine University (Lisle), and St. Francis University (Joliet). Jamie Nagel is competing in her inaugural collegiate season at Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. Former track atheletes, Zeus Gonzalez and Anthony Kelley, are also competing at the college level. Zeus is playing football at Aurora University. Anthony is playing basketball at UIC.

Jenny Lindsay is running anywhere from 3rd to 5th on her team, posting a 20:48 for her 5K and a 27:20 6K earlier this year. Running in her final cross country season as a Panther, the marine biology major will play a major role in improving upon the team's fourth place finish at the Sunshine State Conference Meet a year ago.

James Sobucki just ran a new PR of 29:46 in snowy conditions at the William Penn Invitational. James is striving to be in the top 7 for the Fighting Bees, vying for a chance to travel to Vancouver, WA for the National Championship this November. A sports management major, James is living it up in Davenport and is excited to run well at St. Ambrose's home invite on October 24th.

Tony Karafiat, an accounting and business administration major at Gonzaga has had a rough stretch of injuries dating back to January. Karafiat has been slowly getting back into running shape and is focusing on putting in a solid track season this spring. He ran at the opening meet of the year, but reaggravated some shin problems, setting him back for a couple of weeks. He has remained positive and is excited to watch his Zags play the Illini at the United Center this January.

Stacy Aloisio, a junior at Benedictine has been having injury issues as well. Her legs are not allwoing her to run the way that she is capable. Regardless, she has been fighting through the pain, posting a finish at the Elmhurst Early Bird Invite and at her home meet, the Eagle Invitational.

Gina Aloisio has been running well for the Fighting Saints this year! Posting a 23:04 for 5K at the Notre Dame National Catholic Invitational and a 22:30 at Loyola- Chicago, things have been looking up for this sophomore!

Jamie Nagel is competing in her first official season as a Cougar at SIUE. After red shirting last year, Jamie has been improving over the course of the year, finishing as the 3rd woman for her team, running a 20:34 in Carbondale. The Health Science major also ran an 18:27 4K at the opening meet of the year.

Zeus Gonzalez, a Physical Education major at AU, is showing why he deserved Aurora Central's Athlete of the Year award in 2007. After two seasons of wrestling at Waubonsee, Zeus was named as a starter for AU's offensive line, despite a 2 year hiatus from competitive football. The Spartans are currently 3-2 after posting a 35-0 shutout at their homecoming game this past weekend. The Spartans are picked to win the Northern Athletics Conference title, depsite losses to Illinois Wesleyan and Benedictine earlier this year.

A true freshman, Anthony Kelley will be competing with the UIC Flames this winter. The Flames will look to take home the Horizon League trophy for a berth in the NCAA tournament this March. As stated in this article, the future looks bright for AK.
