A Birthday Tribute for Anderson Cooper Make a donation in his name directly to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and honor him!
The Drive is over but you can still donate!
Thank you to everyone that participated! We collected over $2235 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention!
Join us along with other Anderson fan communities in wishing Anderson a very happy birthday by donating, in his name, to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Anderson will be presented with a letter revealing the number of people that contributed and the amount collected.
What better way is there for Anderson's fans to show their admiration and gratitude for him
and the way he expresses his compassion for people around the world? Not only by showing us the people and places from Africa to New Orleans but by telling their stories so that they will never be forgotten!
Please donate now and give Anderson a wonderful gift this year!
Donations will be taken by the ASFP between Tuesday, May 2cd and Wed, May 31st!
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's activities include:
* Supporting research that is improving our understanding of suicide and its prevention. Since 2000, AFSP has invested 6.6 million dollars in new studies, including research into treatments for people who are depressed and suicidal.
* Providing education and information about depression and suicide to professionals, the media and the public through workshops, trainings, the AFSP website, videos, publications, brochures and public service announcements. AFSP's PSA, "Suicide Shouldn't be a Secret" has reached 88 million television viewers.
* Publicizing the magnitude of the problems of depression and suicide, advocating for polices and legislation that can help prevent suicide and working to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness and suicide.
* Offering programs for survivors of suicide loss that can be of assistance and involving survivors in suicide prevention. AFSP survivor initiatives include the National Survivors of Suicide Day Program, which was broadcast to 112 communities last year and was simulcast on the AFSP website, the Survivor e-Network and trainings for survivor support group facilitator.

A FEW NOTES:
-This money is being collected by the charity and no money is going to any online community or individual. The link is to donate directly to the AFSP and NOT to this website. Names and individual donation amounts will not be giving out to this website or any individual associated with this drive. All personal information remains with the AFSP. -Please do not contact Anderson Cooper or AC360 regarding this via mail or email. We'd like this to be a surprise for his birthday (as best as it can be).
-If you would like, the charity will directly send you a receipt for your tax records. THIS IS TAX DEDCUTIBLE!
-There is an option on the website to donate anonymously if you wish.
-A card and letter will be sent to Anderson revealing how much was collected and how many people contributed.
-This charity was chosen carefully. The small group of volunteers that organized this drive spent many hours researching and making contacts with different charities including ones to do with Africa and The American Heart Association. After weighing all the pros and cons we chose this charity based on 1) The loss of his brother to suicide (Anderson writes about this HERE 2) This charity's enthusiasm and willingness to work with us. Some of the other charities that we contacted were not able to set up a situation where by individual could make donations directly to the charity for a group fund. The choice to go with AFSP was a tough decision but we feel the correct one.
