From Coach Bruce Sikes
2016 marked the 20th year for Academy Fencing Club and my fencing career. In 2016, we were honored to be recognized as one of the “Best Fencing Clubs” by the National Fencing Club Rankings, llc (nfcr). During my 20 plus years, I have worked hard as an informal ambassador for U.S. Fencing to promote and develop it here in St. Louis and around the world. Over the years I have taught thousands of youth and adult fencers the great sport of Olympic fencing. Most recently, I enjoyed representing the US Men’s Veteran Team for the World Championships in Germany, placing number 2 out of pools before suffering a major rotator cuff tear followed by surgery and months of rehab. As with any sports career, I knew it would eventually end and that time for me has come. I have decided to close my Academy Fencing Club and I will no longer be coaching or teaching fencing classes.
However, Fencing at Webster Groves Recreation Complex will continue!
Under a new club organization and new leadership with Coach Adam Doss and other experienced coaches, youth and adults can continue to enjoy the sport of fencing in Webster Groves. Please support them and be sure to check the contact information below below for their Fencing classes and practice times.
In looking back on my long fencing career there have been many success stories and I have made many personal friends among fencers and their families who have become like family to me. I want to thank you for all your years of support and friendship which I value above all!
