What type of material does this library circulate?
We circulate all types of non-fiction, non-corporate material that does not contain bar codes. That includes the following:
+Printed Non-Poetry publications (zines, journals, diaries, photojournals, chapbooks, etc.)
+ Printed poetry publications (zines, chapbooks, etc.)
+ Audio (cassette tapes, records, CDs),
+ Video (VCR tapes, DVDs, DIY documentaries)
+ Open source software
+ Artwork (posters, postcards, stickers, etc.,)
+ Handicapable accessible material (Braille publications, etc.,)
We do not accept sexist, racist or homophobic material, including porn and material published by supremacist organizations. Unfortunately, because we receive so much material, we are not able to review everything that we send out so we cannot be held liable for offensive material.
How can I receive DIY library items?
Its easy.
Simply follow these steps
If you live in the USA, send us $4.90 in postage stamps. Do not send coins and do not send checks. The $4.90 covers the $3.85 for priority mail flat rate, forty-five cents to pay for delivery confirmation and a sixty-cents handling fee. We use the handling fee to maintain the library (computers, paper, printer, etc).
We will then send your library Items by priority mail. We use all your postage to pay for your shipping and delivery confirmation service. By using priority mail you don't have to send us an envelope because envelopes come free with priority mail service.
Or, if you live overseas, send us two or three IRC coupons with a self-addressed envelope and we will try to send you as much as possible.
When you send us the postage, send us the answers to these 7 questions at the same time:
(Most of them are yes or no questions)
#1. Choose all the types of DIY library items that you would like to receive:
+ Printed publications with no poetry (zines, chapbooks, etc.)
+ Printed publications with poetry (zines, chapbooks, etc.)
+ Audio (cassette tapes, records, CDs),
+ Video (vcr tapes, DVDs, DIy documentaries)
+ Open source software
+ Artwork (posters, postcards, stickers, etc.,)
+ Handicapable accessible material (Braille publications, etc.,)
#2. We stuff a large envelope full of the library items that fit in the categories that you choose (always a minimum of ten items), but we DO NOT take requests for specifics such as titles, authors. etc. (If we had to do all the book keeping and paperwork necessary to keep up with all the authors and titles it would take all the fun out running a DIY library). Do you understand?
#3. Although we try to remove easily identifiable racist, sexist or homophobic material, we don't read everything, we don't review everything that we send and we cannot be liable due to the content of anyone's freedom of speech in the DIY Libary material. Do you understand?
#4. Most public libraries (despite being funded by everyone's taxes) are only set up to keep corporate library items with bar codes in their libraries and they do not accept zines, artwork or independent music and DIY documentaries. A lot of volunteer time, financial and personal sacrifice went into making this independent DIY library-by-mail service available, and just as much time went into getting the word out about it all over the world in hopes of making the world a better place. When you are finished reading the material, we would like you to return it to us or pass it on to others. Do you promise not to discard the DIY library items?
#5. We are a library-by-mail service and we DO NOT (YET) offer walk-in, or drop-in library service. Do you understand?
#6. Sending emails and letters of thanks to our volunteers encourages volunteers to work here, and sending negative emails and letters discourages volunteers from working here and then we can't operate the library. Do you understand?
#7. The No Limit DIY Library is a non-copyrighted idea. The idea, the name and everything you are reading is not copyrighted. This is a project to empower the people and services which empower the people to work for a world of peace, equality and world harmony will only continue if you choose for them to continue. We hope you spread the word, enjoy your library items and remember: Together, A Better World is WIthin Reach!
How do I make a donation?
To donate library material, please make sure your library material is non-corporate, non-fiction, it has no bar codes on it, and it is not ripped, broken or stained.
If the items that you want to donate are non-corporate, non-fiction, they have no bar codes on them, and they are not ripped, broken or stained, we will be happy to accept them. Please keep in mind that we do not accept sexist, racist or homophobic material, including porn and church tracts and brochures.
To donate funds and receive a tax-deductible receipt please make check or money order out to Resources for Organizing Social Change (ROSC).
Please mail to:

P.O. Box 474
Portland, Maine 04112,
U.S.A.
Feel free to send us old items, new items and multiple copies of items.
To donate to support us send postage, not money. Postage will help us send more stuff to minorities and people in countries which are not industrialized and people can't afford the overseas postage.

I do not want to send postage through the mail.
What are my options?
If you don't want to send postage stamps through the mail, you can purchase a pack of stamps from the Post Office on their secure website. They have a $9.60 pack of stamps that you can send to us using a credit card. (We recommend the $9.60 postage pack because the lowest amount the post office website currently sells is over 7 bucks.) When we receive the stamps we will send you a package of DIY library items. We will then send a another package of library items a month after the first package.
What is PayPal?
PayPal is an on-line payment processing company. You can send
money to anyone who has an e-mail. We currently do not offer PayPal but someday in the very near future we will so check back soon. In the future we will also have the ability to send you an invoice for the cost of postage using paypal if you prefer. Here is a link: PAYPAL
How long does it take for my order to
ship?
We try and send library items the same day they are placed as long as
they are placed before 12:00 noon (Pacific Standard Time). However, sometimes
we
get pretty busy and it may take up to 7 days for your library order to ship. If you
have
concerns or deadlines you need to send us a postal mail letter as soon as possible. We try to accommodate orders as best we can but we are run by all volunteers.
Do you use any other mail service other than standard postal service?
For most orders we
use the U.S. Mail Service Flat Rate Priority Envelope. This allows us to stuff a special flat rate envelope with as much independent, DIY media (zines, audio, video, stickers, artwork etc.,) as possible. We always send a minimum of 10 items. If you require expedited shipping such as UPS
3 Day Select, 2nd Day
Air or Next Day Air you need to send us a letter before you complete your order and then say that you want to upgrade your shipping. We will e-mail (if you enclosed your email address in the postal mail letter to us) or call you back confirming that we got your request. It
is
important to contact us right away because we process orders so quickly here. If
you wait until the last minute to notify us about a shipping upgrade your library order may be
processed, in a large envelope and on a postal mail truck already!
For people living outside the USA, do you offer overseas mail service?
If you are located in
another country we will can ship your order via Book rate US Mail. You will need to let
us
know via email or postal mail far in advance if you want your order to be shipped Bookrate. We will then send you a shipping cost
estimate which you will need to OK before we send your library items.
When do I return the items that I check out?
You can send back your items anytime. We do not have a due date. We do not charge people fines for not returning materials. You can request more items at anytime without ever worrying about returning the other items you checked out. All that we ask is that you circulate the items or send them back whenever you are done. The goal is to circulate independent, DIY media.
Do you share or sell your mailing
list?
No we never have share our mailing list or any part of our library patron information with anyone. We never will either. Your information is safe.
We do not store any vital information on a computer that is part of a network
or
one that is connected to the internet.
Is your site secure?
No, the site is not but when you purchase stamps through the post office or use PayPal those websites are secure. To make it easy to
browse our site we have opted not to secure the whole site. Plus, it would cost thousands of dollars to secure our website. Here is a link to the
page where you can view Paypal policies and their Secure Site Certificate: POLICY PAGE
I want free samples. Where can I order
them?
We send out lots of free DIY stuff every time someone requests a package from our library. We try to stuff the envelope with as much stuff as possible.
What does No Bar Code mean?
It means that we do not store or circulate anything that contains a bar code. We don't have anything against items or people who use bar codes, but we are a library of items with no bar codes.
Your site is big! Where do I find
things?
We do have an extremely large site. It can seem a bit confusing
until you learn one thing. The Main Page of our site offers
you links to many major sections of our site.
How do I know if my library request went
through?
If you receive an e-mail copy of your order or postal mail copy of your order within two weeks after placing
it
then your order went through. If you do not receive one within two weeks then
chances are that it did not go through properly.
Why do you only accept orders via the
internet and postal mail?
We are a library-by-mail service. We do not have a library where people can walk in. Many activist groups and non-profit groups have volunteers who are not compensated, yet the administration makes thousands of dollars every year. No Limit is a part of the alternative media community of A Better World Is Within Reach Peace Petwork and we are working to make certain that all volunteers receive a stipend. Until we are able to provide a stipend for all volunteers, the cost of having a full time "order taker" for the library orders would cause us to raise our library-by-mail fees for everyone. By charging a fee of 'postage only' we are able to offer independent media and items to minority and financially disadvantaged areas of the world. Note: If you know of someone
who wants to order but does not have a computer let them know that almost all
public libraries have internet connected computers they can use free of
charge. Or print out our library-by-mail newsletter for them.
Why did I not get a tracking
number?
We actually send them out each night.
However, many of our library patrons have SPAM filters and sometimes those e-mail
messages get filtered. If you placed an order and did not receive a tracking
number be sure to check your SPAM filter and if it is not there contact us via
e-mail and we will help you locate your box.
I got a tracking number via e-mail and
don't know what to do with it!
The tracking number can be typed into the Track Your Package
window on the main page of the USPS Tracking Web Site. You can then see the progress that your package is making as it travels from
us to you. It also tells you when your item arrived just in case someone in your home received the package and forgot to give it to you.
What is the best way to contact
you?
The very best way to contact us is via postal mail with a
Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) included. We check e-mail
throughout the day and will answer every message that comes to us.
Calling us is not always the fastest way to get a hold of us. We will
return your
e-mail or phone messages promptly on most days!
Where can I find the contact information
and address?
The homepage of our a website has contact information. Here is a link to our: HOMEPAGE
If I receive items from your library-by-mail, will I have to pay anything besides the $4.90, such as extra fees, registration, annual dues or other late fees?
Actually no. There are no obligations nor commitments. You decide when you want more items. All that we ask is that when you are finished with your library items, please do not discard them. Please pass them on to a friend or send them back to us.
This page is set up to help you
find
answers to your questions. We hope it has been helpful.
