Fundraising Ideas

When I first started raising money, I thought I'd never make $4500, but I kept working and soon I found I had it all paid off. Here are some tips I found while fundrasing...

  • Start fundraising early. Don't wait until Christmas. I had good ideas but didn't put them into action until the spring, so start coming up with ideas as soon as you get accepted.
  • If there are other kids near you or that go to the same school that are also going, try doing a couple big fundraisers. I did a big dinner, bake sales, car washes, and movie nights.
  • People like to know a little about the program when they come to bake sales and car washes, but you don't always have time to talk to everyone so make up little papers with some information about you, the trip, why you want to go, what you will be doing and so on.
  • Find easy money makers. I did a pop can drive which helped out a ton. You put up fliers and tell your relatives and other members of the community. They don't like to go into town to take the cans back so you go pick them up for them and take them to the stores. Not only will you be getting money for your trip but you'll be doing good deeds for the people of your community!
  • Ask local businesses to sponsor you, or help out in their store on weekends for a little extra money. They like to keep up to date with what you're doing, so send letters out every once in a while to let people know how the meetings are going and what fundraiser you're working on now. Don't just get a check from them and never talk to them again. Let them know what is going on.
  • Businesses, community members, and friends like to see what you learned when you get back from your trip. Set up a little get together at your local church or hall and give a little presentation of your trip. Let them see your pictures and souvenirs. The idea of this program is to get people involved so involve your entire community!
  • Ask for things you need for traveling for birthdays and Christmas instead of other presents. Or ask people to give you money to buy things you really need.
  • Take a ton of film with you. I took 23 rolls and still needed more! I'm a picture freak, but you can ask for film for Christmas too.
  • Last but not least come up with creative fundraisers!!!
