Tour"

Welcome to my Kerala Webs. Kerala has a rich history of art

and culture. Preservation of our rich heritage is possible

only through the popularization of ancient art forms, which

are deeply rooted in our culture. Our aim is to showcase the

Kerala painting, dance, music, handicrafts, jewellery and all Kerala art forms and thus to create an

awareness worldwide about our glorious cultural heritage. We have already published about 93 Kerala

art forms and in the process of compiling more. This site offers artists with a web space where they

can publish their profile and image gallery that can be accessed via the World Wide Web and explore

the avenues. Art Kerala stands for promoting the erstwhile as well as living and legendary art forms

of Kerala.

Kerala famed as God's own country and selected by National Geographic traveler, as one of the ten

must see destination of the world, is an enchantingly beautiful land. Social and cultural life of Kerala

has several unique features and typical characteristics. Keralite?s have many distinct tastes and

preferences. Love for elephants and passionate love for poetry and the theatrical arts abound here.

Onam, the festival of Kerala is celebrated marking the beginning of the season of festivals, poorams

and carnivals. Festivals in Kerala are typical of the Keralite's love of nature and refined sense of

beauty. The 560-km long narrow stretch of land with 120 km width is covered with dense tropical

forest, fertile plains, beautiful beaches, cliffs, rocky coasts, an intricate maze of backwaters, still

bays and 44 glimmering rivers. Kerala was famous among travelers and traders for the exotic spices

since time immemorial. Kerala is a small, densely populated state in India. Kerala is rich in scenic

beauty. It has a long literary and artistic tradition.

Kerala is famous for its art, poets and musicians, its traditional dance forms, and its distinctive

architecture. Craft workers in Kerala continue the ancient arts of woodcarving and wall-painting.

For ages, the rich and vibrant culture of Kerala has intrigued people worldwide. The songs and

dances of the people, their ballads, their rituals and their intellectual pursuits. Truly, the real

treasures of Kerala lay in the cultural heritage of its people. Kerala has its own typical art forms

which reflect the life and outlook of the people. From the renowned Kathakali, considered to be the

complete art form as its synthesises all that is best in the fields of drama, music and dance, to the

folk dances which are reflections of the rhythmic impulses of a sensitive people.

Recently the UNESCO brought to light, a less known art form - Koodiyattom - and declared it as one

among the "Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity". It is for the first time in

the history of UNESCO that select art forms across the world have been given this recognition as

part of its effort to safeguard expressions of oral heritage and traditional culture which are in danger

of disappearing due to the efforts of globalisation.

We hope our collections will inspire you to explore, discover and enjoy what we have to offer at Art

Kerala-com. We are always open to suggestions of adding new art forms and artists of Kerala in the

site.
