Welcome to the official website of the Abbey light Railway. We are a privately owned narrow gauge railway running from our depot on Bridge road into the grounds of the historic Kirkstall Abbey.
Passenger trains operate on Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays 1:00 - 5:00pm only (unless otherwise advertised on this site) throughout the year, hauled by at least one of our vintage diesel locomotives.
Scroll down this page for the lastest news of whats going on at the railway.
Also, please sign the guestbook on this site, all your comments and ideas are valued.

A note for none broadband users:
Due to the outstanding success of our March diesel gala day this year, we are planning to do it all again in the Autumn. The agenda will be much the same, with various engines and combinations of engines running on passenger trains throughout the afternoon, Vulcan may haul another enthusiast's special to just outside the Abbey ststion, as per March. This time we are also planning on putting our 'manrider' wagon behind the Gogo tractor, so that those who wish to can have a ride up and down the yard behind this most interesting (and unreliable) machine. Hopefully it will be another good day out for anyone interested in narrow gauge railways, and we hope to see you there! If the turnout is good, this may also become an annual event.
Exact date coming shortly.Diesel Gala 15th march 2009
Thanks to everyone who turned up and made this a sucess. Keep checking this website for information on next year.
