Undated Antique Car, Type 1

The first issue, debuting about 1963, was a fully-embossed steel plate.

Undated Antique Car, Type 2

The dies for "Mississippi" were changed around 1966.

Smaller dies for the numbers were introduced about 1970.

Undated Antique Car, Type 4

Sometime before #2000, the plates were reflectorized, with the legend and car graphic screened.

1977 base Antique Car

Around #3000, some plates had sticker wells along the top with "77" stamped in the right one.

Round bolt holes replaced the enlongated bolt slots.

The legend and graphic are smaller on five digit plates.  Plate #18206 has a 1989 security mark.

The size of the legend and car graphic was reduced again.  Plate  #55127 has a 1994 security mark. 

Undated Antique Car, Type 8

Around #80000 the material was changed to aluminum.  Plate  #83420 has a 1995 security mark.

Undated Antique Car, Type 9

For six digit plates, the old car graphic was positioned directly under the legend.  Plate  #140335 has a 2000 security mark.

Undated Antique Car, Type 10

Beginning around #156000, the plates were fully screened. Plate  #157409 has a 2002 security mark.

USAGE

Any automobile at least 25 years old is eligible for an Antique Car plate.  The plate is valid without renewal for as long as the registrant owns the car.  There are no restrictions on vehicle usage.
