Past Conventions:
Anime Mid-Atlantic: Located in Richmond Virginia. Anime Mid-Atlantic was the very best convention of 2002. It was the first con we'd actually won cosplay for, but besides that it was a very loving atmosphere where everyone got along and everyone smiled all weekend long. Their cosplay is short, sweet, and really good! Well, at least it was back in 2002.
Anime USA: Located in Vienna, Virginia. Anime USA was a really great convention. It was the first time the Cosplay Crew had ventured to Vienna for the annual event and we had a great time. I can't really tell you about how their cosplay was structured because neither Kawaii_Neko23 or myself participated in the cosplay events. However I do know a few of the people who ran the various cosplay things, and they said it was a blast. Wah, I'm sorry I missed out.
Animazement: Located in Durham, North Carolina. I've only been there once, but it was a very pleasant experience (That's how I got brainwashed into liking Minky Momo). There cosplay is really quick and efficient, even when we went this year (2005) it was still pretty quick. Plus everyone is very, very supportive of their fellow cosplayers. Thank you Animazement for the wonderful time we had this year!
Katsucon: Located in happy Crystal City, Arlington, Virginia (moving to DC for the 2006 event). I'm looking forward to a better Katsucon in 2006, this year was a little scattered in terms of the convention itself. However it's a great convention to chase away those dreary winter blues or just to snuggle up with your favorite cosplay love-bug (since the convention usually falls around Valentine's Day of the weekend of it).
Otakon: Located in the Baltimore Maryland Convention Center. Generally a great convention, however, being the largest on the East Coast there are going to be some definite problems if you are agoraphobic. Their cosplay is very well structured, but competition is extremely fierce! And it gets tougher every year.
Shoujocon: Sadly I think Shoujocon is now defunct, which is very sad to hear. I think I heard though, it morphed into a joint venture between Yuricon and Shoujocon to become Onna Fest. I've never attended Onna Fest, so I can't personally speak on what it's like. You'll just have to go and experience it yourself.
Yaoicon: Located in San Francisco California. I'm still rather pissed and extremely disappointed with everything about Yaoicon (and that was five years ago now), but I'll keep this as cordial as possible. Okay, I didn't attend their cosplay, but what I saw of it on the video tape was confusing. People were standing or walking about aimlessly and I not sure how it was judged, or if it was judged? But don't waste your time. Very few people came dressed in cosplay anyway.
In Attendance For 2006 Conventions:
The Cosplay Crew is always deliberating on what conventions we want to go to. So far we only have two definite and two potentials.
Definite Attendance:
Katsucon 12: February 17th-19th Washington DC Omni Shoreham Hotel
Otakon 2006: August 4th-6th Baltimore, Maryland Back at the old BCC
Potential Attendance:
Anime Mid-Atlantic 6: June 16th-18th Richmond, VA Now in the Greater Richmond Convention Center (Wow, they've really grown since we went back in 2002.)
Anime USA 8: Dates and location unknown at this time.
