                           8th-08 Series Round 5 Grantham

8th-08 Grantham

Round 5 saw us over the east side of the midlands at Grantham's A1 club. The Grantham track is mainly a clay based dirt track which has held many events including Emnorc rounds and a round of this years popular Tyro series.

On arrival the track was dry but rain had been forecast later on in the day, so with little delay we got the meeting got underway.

After the usual drivers briefing we all went into one round of practice to allow people to get used to the track

                       8th-08 Series Round 4 Ledbury

8TH 08 Round 4 Ledbury

Sunday 27th July saw us at newly re-vamped Ledbury track on what looked to be a blisteringly hot day ahead of us

The new track included many exciting features including a banked corner, doubles, triples, bomb holes and raised corners.

The Ledbury team had been hoping for some rain in the week prior to this meeting as the new surface seemed somewhat dusty to say the least.

After drivers briefing by both the race director (Doug Hogg) and the 8th-o8 Series Chairman we went straight into a round of practice. During the practice round it was obvious that the dust on the tracks newly laid surface was causing some visibility issues on some areas of the new track.

In the 1st round of qualifying it was Lee bunker who was the fastest Rallycross driver, followed 2nd by Jon Howells and Carl Richards 3rd, In Truggies it was Young Michael Lewis who Took 1st Round Qualification followed by Mark Kilsby 2nd and then Nathan Powney 3rd.

As round 2 began we started to see a line clearing on some of the more dusty parts of the track, And Jon Howells to be the quickest driver in this round followed by Carl Richards and then Mathew Lewis 3rd. In the 2nd Round of Qualification for the Truggy class it was Martin Hughes who was the fastest closely followed by Michael Lewis in 2nd and then Jack Law 3rd.

Before round 3 began it was apparent that a couple of the new jumps had begun to cut up and create a inconsistent transition and During a small Break the 8th-08 and Ledbury Team headed By Jon Howells Helped reprofile these jumps which then allowed us to continue with the next round of qualification.

Round 3 saw Rallycross driver Lee Bunker back on the top spot for this round followed by Matthew Lewis 2nd and Tom Reynolds 3rd.

Michael Lewis was the quickest again with his Losi Truggy followed by Martin Bell 2nd  and then Simon Taylor 3rd.

With the drivers support it was decided between the 8th 08 team and Ledbury's committee to shorten the finals due to the risk of the dust causing damage to either someone's engine or risk to the marshals health whilst on the track

The rallycross E final saw Des King get off to a great start only to flame out on his 2nd lap in 1st position this left Cameron Currin to come through and lead until Neil Francis took the win in the last moments of the race, so the top three to bump up were

 Neil Francis 1st,

Trevor Savin 2nd

and Cameron Currin 3rd

The D final saw Chris Deacon take the win with a staggering 2 laps up on 2nd place, Neil Francis had another good run taking 2nd and Andrew Gaut grabbed the last bump up place (3rd).so the top three to bump up were

Chris Deacon 1st

Neil Francis 2nd

Neil Gaut 3rd

No Picture

The C final saw Chris deacon have another storming run coming from 13th position to take the win again! Closely followed by, John Roberts 2nd and Les Reeder 3rd to go up to the B final. so the top three to bump up were

Chris Deacon 1st

John Roberts 2nd

Les Reeder 3rd

In the B Final it was Richard Hanscomb who came out on top after the 10 minute B final, with Lloyd Pitt 2nd and Les Reeder who came from 15th on the grid to take the 3rd Bumped up to the A! Well done to Les on his 2nd bump up! so the top three to bump up were

Richard Handscomb 1st

Lloyd Pitt 2nd

Les Reeder 3rd

TQ man Lee Bunker got off to a fantastic start in the 12 minute A final, which he held until his engine flamed out in the last minute of the race. This allowed Chris Leighton to take the win coming from 7th position on the grid. Matthew Lewis drove a good race taking a conformable 2nd; lee Bunker still managed a respectable 3rd position.so the top three

                       8th-08 Series Round 3 Frankley

Round 3 was scheduled to be at J12's dirt track near Gaydon, but due to the amount of rain the area had received and the amount of flooding on the track that was apparent the J12 committee had no alterative to cancel the meeting.

After Numerous late night conversations with Possible Clubs that could run the meeting it becoming apparent that a back-up club would not be found at short notice and that the only apparent course of action would be to use the Astro-turf Facitity at Frankley

The 8th-08 committee had last minute talks with Frankley model car club it was agreed that J12 would swap their round with Fmcc. After drivers briefing the standard 8th-08 race format of 1 round of practice and 3 rounds of qualifying got underway on Frankley's excellent all weather Astroturf Track.

After one round of practice to familiarise drivers with the current layout at Frankley the 1st round of qualifying got underway, rally cross driver Steven Childerhouse was the quickest man in round 1 followed by Jim Davis and then 3rd Rob Cork. In the Truggies class it was Michael Lewis was the quickest in the 1st round closely followed by Mark Gilmore and Martin Hughes in that order.

                              8th-08 Round 2 Northampton

The second round of this new exciting series saw us at Tooley's RC track in Hartwell near Northampton; on arrival to the site we witnessed the tracks team making an excellent job of managing the 60 plus drivers in to the pitting area

Booking was a less than usual task as everyone had pre booked via postal entry, the sun was shinning and Tooley's new well presented, technical track looked very promising!

After drivers briefing the drivers went out for the first round which would be a timed practice run, this would be followed by another 3 rounds of qualifying in which two would count.

It was Rallycross driver Jim Davis (Losi) who was the quickest man in the practice followed by Tom Reynolds (Hong Nor) and then Lee Bunker (Losi). In Truggies the top 3 drivers were Stuart Jolly (Xray), Nigel Arden then Martin Bell.

On to the 1st round of qualifying and we could already see a wide range of tyres being used, Greg Hill with his new 808 Xray took the top spot in this round with a 11/315.74, 2nd was Tom Reynolds 11/317.42 and 3rd Sam Flower 11/318.23.

Truggy driver Michael Lewis (Losi) was the quickest in this 1st round, 2nd was Jack Laws (losi) followed by Stuart Jolly.
