Quickwrite Instructions:
1. Write Quickly (about 10 minutes).
2. Write all of the thoughts that come to your mind on your topic.
3. Write neatly enough so that others can read it.
4. Don’t worry about spelling, but don’t forget the punctuation!
Rereading your piece:
1. Fine a sentence that you really like. Underline it.
2. Find three words you like. Circle them.
3. Find a paragraph or section that surprises you. Put brackets around it.
4. Find the heartbeat of the piece (the part that you care the most about). Draw a heart next to it.
5. Find at least two sentences that are not important to the topic and cross them out.
6. Find three verbs that are strong and specific and underline them. If you wish, find three more verbs that are weak and circle them with dotted lines.
Partner Share: The Listener….
1. Comments on the writing.
2. Asks questions of the author about parts that are unclear.
3. Tells what he/she remembers most about the writing.
4. Tells what he/she thinks is the heartbeat of the piece.

P.S. Remember that Revision and Editing are different. Editing is convention, revision is making sense of the writing.
