I am working on updating the individual history of the 33rd
Transportation Platoon, documenting its time at Camp Friendship. The unit
lineage is found on the 519th Transportation Battalion's History page.
Thanks for everyone's support, hope this
change will be an enhancement to the site.

These
memories just keep coming. When the 569th closed down in early 1970 I
was transferred to the 33rd platoon in Korat. I ran the milk route that
went to Udorn, NKP, and SKN. It was an opportunity for a young,
stubborn kid like me to stay out of trouble. At that time in my life I
was very un-military and really needed to stay out of sight as much as
possible. I learned to hate those reefer motors. I remember one time
when the reefer quit while I was hauling a load of ice cream on that
same northern route. I got the loads delivered to Udorn and NKP but The
guys at SKN refused it because it was too warm. I got the reefer going
in the engineer motor pool and took the load back to Korat and spent the
next few days giving away ice cream. When I was in the 2nd platoon of
the 569th TC Lt. Koons kept me and PFC Benson out on the road between
Korat and SKN. I too remember the cowpot stand we all stopped at. I
think a plate of cowpot was 15 cents and a coke was 7 cents. I went on
to a pretty good Army career and retired in 1989 having acheived the
rank of 1SG. My last duty before I retired was as Division ammo NCO of
9ID and acting Discom SGM. I credit Steve with very quietly directing
me to do the right things. Thanks for listening guys.
