The role of 4 Wing Pipe & Drums is to provide musical support to the Canadian Forces units in and around the 4 Wing Cold Lake geographic areas. Additionally the Pipes & Drums will provide regional musical support on ceremonial occasions, principally though not exclusively, of an Air Force nature. Pipe band performances promote the military ethos, high morale, esprit de Corp, and thus foster operational effectiveness. Pipe Bands are also a very effective element of the 4 Wing community outreach program, designed to enhance relations with the civilian community, make Canadians aware of the Air Force and 4 Wing by projecting a positive image. With forty years of history the 4 Wing Pipes & Drums continue to contribute to the preservation of Canadian musical heritage.

The Mission of the Pipe Bands is to:

♬ Proudly represent 4 Wing and the Canadian Forces in all of the engagements performed;

♬ Satisfy authorized requests from 4 Wing clients for music services;

♬ Satisfy authorized music requests from federal, provincial and municipal government local representatives and any other authorized clients;

♬ Provide a venue where the art of piping and drumming can be taught practiced and demonstrated to the military and civilian community.

♬ Contribute to the preservation of the Canadian military musical heritage.
