More About Four Season Harvest Community Gardens

Four Season Harvest Community Gardens is a grass-roots organization dedicated to providing high-quality pesticide-free produce at a reasonable price to the communities of Placitas, Bernalillo, Corrales,  Rio Rancho and north Albuquerque.

Small scale farming, with a focus on quality rather than quantity is inherently unprofitable so the farm depends on membership subscriptions to fund startup costs each season. This unique enterprise is a  a farming concept called CSA, Community Supported Agriculture.

Community Supported Agriculture is a concept where individual community members buy ‘shares’ in the farm.  These shares fund the farmers as they prepare the soil, order seeds, plant, harvest and tend the crops.  This allows the risk, whether it be weather, drought, or pests,  to be shared.  In return, members receive a bounty of the crops each week for the duration of the growing season.

Members pay an up front fee to the Four Season Harvest Community Gardens and receive 16 weeks of produce during the winter season and 20 weeks of produce for the summer season as the crops come in.  Members share the measured risk of farming with the farmer, as well as the healthful benefits; vegetables harvested at the peak of perfection.

What makes Four Season Harvest Community Gardens unique is that a Winter Harvest Season of vitamin-rich gourmet greens, baby lettuces and a variety of root crops  is offered from Mid-January through April to a limited membership.

About the Farm.

The Summer Farm is located in a traditional agriculture area in the village of Placitas.  The farm receives it's irrigation water from a private and very reliable spring . The 2005 season will see an expansion of the farm  and an increase in melon, tomato, summer and winter squash crops.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS-

Placitas Youth Garden Project

An Educational opportunity for the entire community

Placitas Youth Garden is a collaboration between Four Season Harvest Community Gardens - a 501c3 Public Charity, Sandoval County youth and youth groups with the volunteer and financial support of the Sandoval County Community.

The purpose of the youth farm is to offer ongoing educational opportunities to the young people of Sandoval County

We invite adult volunteers to join us at the farm and work alongside the kids.

The Youth Farm and Greenhouses are located east of Placitas Village on Camino Empresa. The main Community Garden is on the same road but up a ways.

As the primary sponsor of this fun project FSHCG has secured the Youth Garden  location, is preparing the soil, making the furrows and have all the seed and plant starts needed to create a beautiful garden.

We invite the community to see how anybody can grow fresh vegetables during the winter months.  Regular free classes will be offered at the Youth Farm as well as the main Community Garden.

You can support the development of the Youth Garden for just $50 a year.

If we achieve our 2005 Youth Farm Patron goal of 50 community patrons we will dedicate 75% of the proceeds to improve the Youth Garden. The remaining 25% will go to the general community farm fund to support your community garden.

Veggies harvested at the Youth Garden will be sold at The Placitas Village Farm Market on weekends beginning late April. Proceeds will go to the Youth Garden Fund.

If $50 won’t take food off your table, please consider helping us to put better food on your table.

All donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated.
