Another New Interview with Daniel at Comingsoon.net

'Tis the season for interviews, and comingsoon.net has just posted a new one with Daniel for your reading enjoyment:

quote:
"CS: Are your scenes with Umbridge appropriately nasty?
Radcliffe: Yes, definitely. They are very, very dark and also very exciting and brilliant. Imelda Staunton is one of the reasons why doing this film has been my favorite. She's just an amazing actress and a really delightful woman"
It's a really good read, so go and check it out by clicking on the above link.

UK OOTP Press Junket

DanRadcliffe.com attended the UK Press Junket for Order of the Phoenix earlier today. The lovely Lauren was our rep there. Sorry to have taken so long getting this up, but we were trying to get everything transcribed first. We are almost done with the trio session, so I am going to start the post now.

First, you will have noticed there are a few photos from the event. Thanks to Emma Watson Online for the big versions.

You can view the entire transcription of the David Heyman, David Yates and Michael Goldenberg session Here. In it, they talk about the cast (including Daniel) and other various things concerning the movie.

Update:You can now view the entire transcription for the trio Here. Big thanks to Coralie for finishing that up!

In the session with Daniel, Emma and Rupert, Lauren asked Daniel a question about how everyone recognizes Harry as a wonderful character and everyone always talks about why they like him, but we wanted to know some things about the character that he thinks aren't so good. Dan replied, "Let me go first...I think Harry does have bad aspects and I think everybody has in a way. I think he can be... when he lashes out in this film he lashes out at his two best friends and I think that's something that a lot of people do simply because they know that ultimately they'll be ok.

So I think that, I think he can be possibly...I think he can be selfish because he does have this desire to...he feels he has to live up to this image of himself, but one all these people have - this sort of great defender of right and magical things and I think he does feel he has to be the hero and so he has to go it alone, so he does try to cut himself off from people. I think those would be a few of them. And also, possibly in the third film, when Snape infers that he's like his father and that he's arrogant I think there is possibly some truth in that. And we're possibly going to see more of it - I don't know - I don't know...but possibly. And there you go guys...be very diplomatic."

The entire transcript for the trio will be up soon. You can listen to the complete audio from both sessions now though:

New and Higher Res Versions of OOTP Pics

We have a few large pics from OOTP. Some we have seen from the trailers or stickers, others I don't remember seeing (although I have seen so many I think I have lost my mind anyway so don't hold me to that), but these are MUCH larger. There are 10 photos in all.

New Video from the Set of OOTP

Our friends over at UHP have just advised us that reporters from a French program called 'Le Grand Journal' were invited last November on the set of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in order to interview some of the cast members and have a first hand look at some of the elaborate and magical sets being used in the making of the movie. The link to the video below is a preview of the upcoming special report featuring Dan in the Gryffindor common room. Please remember to right click and Save Target As... Enjoy!

Katie and Matthew Speak a Bit More of Daniel

With OOTP fast approaching, the flurry of interviews popping up in all the newspapers is turning into a full fledged storm of information and quotes! Here are a couple of cute ones about Daniel from Katie Leung (Cho Chang) in The Daily Record and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), translated from an interview on harrylatino.com:

quote:
"Katie: I love Dan to bits. He is so down to earth, it's unbelievable. You would never think he plays the most famous boy in the world. He never acts like he is the star. He's so well-mannered and he really cares about you. He's always asking, 'Are you all right? Can I do anything?' Things like that"
quote:
"Matthew: (Dan and I are) really good friends. Dan’s fantastic. We like the same comedies, the same music which is what we always talk about, like a comedy we’ve just seen or an album we just bought, something like that. I’m actually going to see him tomorrow at his play Equus. We are meeting afterwards. It can be fun because we haven’t seen (each other) for a month. I can’t wait"
Of course, we all know from an earlier quote that Matthew enjoyed Equus very much and thought Dan very brave for taking on such a role! amuse.gif

Many thanks to Elena and radcakesfan for the tips.

Thanks very much to reader Tracy for sending in a translation of the magazine Kampioen from the Netherlands. This is much like a travel magazine, so it was a complete surprise - you will find much of the article is about London. Daniel talks about why he likes living in London, what to do and eat, etc. Tracy does not have a scanner, so if anyone has this magazine and a scanner - please send us the scans! smile1.gif

Is London extra fun if you're young?

“London is wonderful if you're young! I'm crazy about all different kinds of music, and in that respect in London there is everything to experience. There are also an unbelievable number of good music stores. My favorite is Fopp Records, a music chain. They always have what I'm looking for. What's also nice about London: you can really eat anything you have a craving for there. I am not an adventurous eater - my mother wishes it were otherwise – but I love pizzas and tapas and that sort of food. And of course English things like fish and chips, but also Japanese and Indian. You can find everything in London and usually also really close by.”

More Praise for Dan from David Yates

There is a very interesting interview with Order of the Phoenix director David Yates at Time Out New York Kids in which he speaks in glowing terms of Dan's professional approach to acting and of his wonderful personality:

quote:
"Dan is incredible because he’s so enthusiastic and has a tremedous work ethic. He really pushes himself and wants to be pushed, and he’s hugely ambitious to get it right. So I really pushed him in this film and I think he responded to that. I had a really exciting moment in our journey together in making the film. In the first couple of months [of shooting], I would say, “alright we have to go again. I don’t believe it, I don’t think you believe it, I want it to feel realer.” And then about two months into the six month shoot, instead of me saying I want to go again, Dan turned round to me and he said, “David, can I go again cause that didn’t feel real for me.” That was a really great moment because he started to push himself even more. He’s incredibly generous and lovely on the floor. He makes everybody feel comfortable and included. If we’d have visitors to the set, which we very often do because Harry Potter’s like this magnet for lots of people, he’s always very welcoming and very warm. And he’s very witty."

Bonnie Wright and Matthew Lewis Call Equus Smart Choice for Daniel
Posted by coralie on 18/06/07

There are some new interviews with Harry Potter actors Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) in the Basingstoke Gazette, in which Bonnie speaks of seeing Daniel in Equus:

quote:
"Q: Did you go to see Daniel Radcliffe in Equus in the West End?

A: I saw it and I enjoyed it. For him it was definitely a good, good thing to
do, because you're so easily typecast as a child actor and I think it's a good
move. The play was just amazing - I was so wrapped up in it all.
"
It's always nice to hear what Dan's Potter co-stars have to say about the play.

Many thanks to the ever prolific Lauren for the tip!

Update: Reader Nicole just sent in the following quote from Matthew Lewis, which appeared in an interview in the Telegraph:
quote:
"Q: You’re not going to do anything drastic, like Daniel Radcliffe did with Equus?

A: No. That was a very brave move from Dan, and it’s paid off fantastically. But I’m not that brave."

Video of Dan Promoting Japanese Premiere

There is a short video clip of Dan on YouTube in which he briefly promotes his presence at the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in Tokyo, Japan, on June 28. The quality of the clip is not that great, but we will replace it with a better one if we can. In the mean time, enjoy listening to Dan speak a few words in Japanese!

Dan in Xposé Magazine

Many thanks to Tracey for the scans of an article on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in the current edition of Xposé Magazine. Nothing new in the pictures that accompany the article, but there are a couple of good quotes from Dan, including this one in which he speaks of transplanting Harry's anger and emotions from the pages of the fifth Harry Potter book to the big screen:

quote:
"I think Harry's justified in being angry and disturbed and upset because of everything that's happened to him. The fifth book's actually my favorite, but I know what you mean about the CAPITALS, because there are a lot of them and it does go on for chapters and chapters, so in the script it has been toned down slightly because it can...it hasn't been toned down because the anger is still there, but it's just, shouting is often not the most interesting way to play anger. Because it's quite an obvious route to go down, in terms of acting."
A quote such as this one certainly reinforces what we already know: Daniel is a true artist who takes his acting seriously and continuously strives to hone his craft.

When Harry Kissed Cho

There is a rather fun new interview with Katie Leung (Cho Chang) at living.scotsman.com, in which the nineteen-year-old actress speaks, amongst other things, about her on-screen kiss with Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix:

quote:
"Of course I was nervous about it. I blame it on the crew because they made it impossible for me to forget. Every day, somebody would come up and say things like 'Are you looking forward to it?' Or 'Euwww, it's going to be really wet!"
According to the article and luckily for Katie, Daniel admitted he was feeling just as anxious:
quote:
"He admitted that he was nervous too, which made me feel better because I was a bag of nerves," says Katie. "We joked around, saying 'Have you brushed your teeth?' and 'Have you eaten your mints?' So we were much more relaxed when we came to do it."
Of course, Daniel has since then become much more of a pro at this thanks to December Boys and Equus! bigsmile.gif

Dan's Latest Newsletter to Fans

Many thanks to Ava for sending us a copy of Dan's latest newsletter. In this issue, written just before the end of his run in Equus, Dan states that the play was one of the most fantastic experiences of his life. He then goes on to speak about December Boys, confirming it will be released in the US on September 14th and in Australia on September 20th, and that the movie will be distributed by Warner Brothers International

quote:
"so many of you outside these countries will have the opportunity to see this gentle coming-of-age drama."
Which I am sure is welcome news for everyone here! Of course, before December Boys there is the much anticipated release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix just round the proverbial corner!

Remember that all you need to do in order to receive your very own copy of this newsletter is to write to Daniel at one of the addresses listed here amuse.gif

Equus... The Final Performance

As a complement to Jenna’s in-depth opening night review of Equus, I wanted to post a handful of thoughts on this intriguing and compelling play now that the final curtain has fallen.

I had the good fortune of seeing the play twice while I was in London last week, once from the stalls and once from the stage seats (the last performance on June 9th), and it was an utterly mesmerizing experience both times.

As Richard Griffiths (Martin Dysart) mentioned in his closing night speech, a play such as Equus is a work in progress until the very last performance; however, I honestly cannot imagine anything that could have been improved upon by the time I saw the final show. This is theatre at its quintessential best: minimalist decor, simple costumes, mood-setting lighting, haunting music and extraordinary acting from every single cast member. Nobody missed a beat. This is the kind of magic that makes it easy for us to believe that the tall and graceful dancers wearing platform hooves and metal horse heads to hide their features are in fact the beautiful animals they represent, or that Daniel is indeed a six year-old child making sandcastles on the beach when Alan Strang sees a horse for the very first time.

The play was rife with the pain and anguish of its characters, but also offered up some lighter moments that effectively stopped the drama from turning into a melodrama. I loved the natural interaction between Jonathan Cullen and Gabrielle Reidy, perfectly cast and absolutely believable as Frank and Dora Strang, and between Richard Griffiths and Daniel Radcliffe. Will Kemp was absolutely splendid in his dual roles as the horseman and the horse Nugget. Jenny Agutter (Hesther Saloman), the charismatic Joanna Christie (Jill Mason), Colin Haigh (Harry Dalton) and Karen Meagher (the nurse) rounded off the talented roster with equally strong performances.

As a dancer I was profoundly struck by the beauty and fluidity of the movements performed by the men playing the horses, by the incredible ‘pas-de-deux’ performed by Will and Daniel while the stage spun around dizzily underfoot, and by the extraordinary and deeply powerful choreography performed by Daniel in the horse blinding scene. The sensual tableau made up by Alan Strang embracing Nugget at the beginning of both acts is just one of the many striking visuals that will stay branded in my mind for a very long time, much like the outline of Daniel’s silhouette remained imprinted on stage well after the actors’ final bows.

Dan's 18th Birthday Project and Fund-Raiser

Many of you are familiar with the Dr.com 18th Birthday Project we have going - currently we have about 2,500 participants in this so far (submissions will only be accepted through June 10th). Keep those submissions coming - I at least wanna break 3,000.

Now, I'd like to go into the second part of the birthday project, which is our annual birthday fund-raiser for Demelza Children's Hospice. If you are unfamiliar with Demelza you can read more about them, along with Dan's involvement, HERE.

Instead of sending birthday presents to Dan, he would prefer that you send donations to help support this fantastic organization.

All fans that donate to this very worthy cause will have the opportunity to send birthday wishes to Dan along with their donations. I will collect the thoughts and wishes sent in to DanRadcliffe.com and create a special section in ACED Magazine for Dan to read them.

Fans who donate will also be entered into a special prize drawing. There will be three big prizes, and several small ones. First place will receive an Equus t-shirt, poster and a signed Equus lobby card by Daniel himself. Second and third place runner-ups will receive an Equus t-shirt and poster. Various others will receive Equus lobby cards and promo posters (unsigned).

Please forward your Worldpay receipts to me (jenna@danradcliffe.com), along with your wish so I can include you. (Please refrain from sending marriage proposals or "I love you, you're so hot" messages, those types of messages are not acceptable.)

We've created banners and buttons for fans and other websites to join in the festivities and be a sponsor - it's free to be a sponsor.

If you are already familiar with the procedure then go on and DONATE NOW!! Please don't forget to select Daniel Radcliffe as your source!

We will accept donations until July 7th, at which point we will present the total to him personally on the red carpet at the Premiere for OOTP.

Dan Fearless in Equus

There is an excellent article on Equus in the current issue of Dance Europe Magazine which discusses the importance of movement and choreography in a production such as this one. The author also speaks of Dan’s fearless performance on stage:

quote:
"Kemp (dancer Will Kemp, who plays the horse Nugget in Equus) effortlessly scoops Radcliffe onto his shoulders to run around the stage to recreate a canter along the shoreline… Radcliffe seems completely fearless in this scene, which is fraught with the real possibility of a heavy fall, but he and Kemp seem to have a real rapport."

More New Interviews: TV Movie and IGN

Thanks very much to Christian of Harry Potter Xperts for sending us some scans of a new interview with Dan in German magazine TV Movie (issue 11, on sale May 18th). You can view the scans here: (1) (2)

If you don't speak German, don't worry because our German translator Sabine has translated the entire interview for us: TV Movie: My Role Model Is A Punk

quote:
"Sid Vicious, a punk musician who died of his drug addiction, is a role model for you. Why?

Sid was cool, because he never cared about what the others thought about him. I try to do the same. People can write or say about me what they want to – I don’t care at all!"
And IGN.com has a quote from Dan in the first part of their OOTP Set Visit Report
quote:
"We spoke with Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Potter, about the darkness that informs this film and in particular how Harry is changing. "He is incredibly angry all the time. We did a scene the other day where he confesses to Sirius about how he actually feels, how he feels angry constantly and how he thinks he is possibly turning into a bad person. There's a lot going on inside his head and I think that, for me as an actor, it makes it more interesting to do and I think for an audience it becomes a more charismatic character to watch," Radcliffe said."
Thanks to Elena for the tip!

Teen Vogue: New Photos and Interview with Trio

Teen Vogue magazine in the US (June 2007 issue) has an 8-page spread devoted to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, including an exclusive interview and photo shoot.

quote:
"Dan: Harry Potter will be the character that got me famous, and will probably be the one that people remember first, but I like to think that if I work hard enough and do as many different things as I can, there will eventually be others that stick in their minds as well."
Many thanks to HPANA for these wonderful scans:

quote:
"There's a lot going on inside of his head, and I think that, for me as an actor, that makes him more interesting to do," Radcliffe said. "And I think, for an audience, he becomes a more charismatic sort of character to watch, because he is so of two different sides."

Orlando Bloom Comments on Dan's Performance in Equus

There is a quick quotation from the Scotland on Sunday in their interview with Orlando Bloom about Dan's performance in Equus:

"...it would be great to do a play in the West End and be part of a company. I did see Equus recently and thought Daniel Radcliffe [the Harry Potter star] did a great job. It was really a brave choice. It made me think." ~Bloom

UPDATED March 18, 2007 20:01 GMT

18 Weeks, 18th Birthday, 1800 Pounds for Demelza!
Posted by Page

Today marks just about 18 weeks before Dan's 18th Birthday, and our goal is to raise £1800 for Demelza's Children this time around! We have confirmed our suspicions with Dan's Publicist that our approach to discontinue formal organized fan projects for Dan is welcomed and is considered astute and proactive on our part. As you know, Dan will approach his 18th Birthday in July, and he just does not need material or physical items anymore. Although we knew this a few years ago, we continued to host them for your benefit and Dan has always been gracious and appreciative of fan's collective efforts and participation.

The time has really come to simply abide by Dan's most important message and that is, "to continue to donate any amount to Demelza House Children's Hospice because the need is there for the children. A quote taken directly from Dan's latest newsletter dated February 2007:

"I was thrilled, as always, by the generosity of everyone who made donations to Demelza House - it is making a huge difference to this wonderful hospice." ~Daniel Radcliffe

We appreciate the fact that our charity fundraisers continue to grow more successful with each attempt and we really appreciate your kindness! Without further "ado" we wish to launch our Demelza House fundraising campaign in honour of Dan's 18th Birthday!

Simply click the "flashy" graphic above, or our "Support Demelza House" graphic from the main page which will take you to our Official Fundraising Page where you can make a donation and leave a message if you wish! No fancy webpages, no bells and whistles, just a huge flashy graphic in our news to constantly remind fans how important Dan considers this to be! Email me if you have questions! In the meantime, why don't you visit our "Look Into The Hospice" section which was provided by our own Charity Representative, Julie!

Dan To Support "Film Club" in the UK
Posted by Page

I didn't want to post this until I knew it was valid, and it was confirmed for me this morning by Dan's Publicist that Dan will in fact support "Film Club" in the UK as reported by Variety. Film Club is designed to introduce youngsters to a broader spectrum of cinema. UK Finance Minister, Gordon Brown said, "Film Club is a great example of how schools can offer young people the chance to do something engaging and exciting at the end of their school day. For the first time, Film Club will allow young people to watch a much wider range of films from world cinema together and discuss them in groups," he said.

The website, www.filmclub.org, will enable students and teachers to access 400 recommended titles as well as order films which will be dispatched via an online rental service. Students and teachers will also be able to write reviews and rate movies.

Dan has agreed to visit schools during the pilot phase of the project. Film Club is a non-profit organization supported by the U.K. Film Council, the BFI, The Guardian, Lovefilm, Film Education, All Industry Marketing, Film Bank/PVSL and the Film Distributors Association. Currently in the pilot phase in 25 schools, the intention is to roll out Film Club to a further 10,000 schools nationwide this summer. Please note that if the schools Dan will visit are revealed to us, we will not publish those locations for security reasons.

Rave EQUUS Reviews Continue and Video from Reelz TV
Posted by Page

Reviews continue to come in almost on a daily basis regarding Dan's performance on London's West End Stage, as well as the Production, EQUUS. Thanks to Karen for sending over scans from The Sunday Times this past weekend. The play received "five stars" from them and I hear that this review was particularly meaningful..(sorry cannot elaborate further than that!)

Quoting directly from the article:

"Radcliffe is mesmerizing, capturing all of Strang's weird charisma, his rage, his silently burning intensity, his accusatory stare, his mystery, his 'keep out of my private sacred space' hatred. His modest stature only accentuates the child at the heart of his adolescent agonies, yet he is also powerfully wound up and sinewy, and his startlingly large, soulful eyes are a big asset, given the story line."

Richard Griffiths received equally delightful praise for his role as Psychiatrist Martin Dysart as did most of the other cast. The Sunday Times also said, "Add to all these top-notch performances such unforgettable tableaux as Radcliffe mounted up and crying out in his ecstasy, his skinny torso stretched out as if crucified under the pouring white light, and you have a production of unforgettable visual as well as verbal impact." To read the full review, please see the scans below!

Sunday Times (page 1, page 2)

Equally interesting, is a review from the New York Times. This review actually is written based on fan's comments regarding the play and does quote a few of them. Thanks to Epsy for the tip!

Also, we've included an interesting video clip from Reelz TV which contains alot of different perspectives regarding the play, Dan's career choice, and is overall supportive. I thought you might be interested in giving it a whirl so enjoy! Thanks again to Epsy for the video!

EQUUS Director, Thea Sharrock, Talks About Dan
Posted by Page

EQUUS Director, Thea Sharrock, spoke of Dan and his commitment to the Production via an interview on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour which was broadcast this morning. She discussed Dan's preparation and commitment to his career with a high amount of respect.

She explains that there was always alot of pressure surrounding the production, but once the actors go into rehearsals, they all go into sort of a tunnel. The actors were where they needed to be and the playwrights were happy. Making Peter Shaffer happy with what they were doing was the goal.

She was asked how she explained the differences to Dan regarding film and theatre. She said there was never any pressure regarding Dan, "he is an absolute brilliant actor in his own right. It's an enormous leap for any seventeen-year-old to do. He brings with him an extraordinary discipline and level of professionalism. He has seven years of incredibly intense acting experience. Dan had wanted to do it (EQUUS) for quite some time, however due to scheduling conflicts, the option was incredibly tight. We went to the theatre alot and began to watch actors and how the placement of actors creates either a stronger or weaker presence. The most training needed to be put in place with voice preparation. Dan prepared for eighteen months, and it paid off."

Regarding the nudity, Ms. Sharrock explained that teenagers are "animals" in their own right and that one thirteen-year-old is very different from another, and ultimately the responsibility was placed on the parents as to whether or not they would allow their children to see the play. She said it felt wrong to put an age limit on it and it was discussed with the Producers.

It's about nine minutes in to the broadcast, however, it's well worth a listen. In order to listen to the interview you must have Real Player installed on your computer. Thanks Carole!

Dan Will Return for Last Two Harry Potter Films
Posted by Page

I am pleased to inform you that it has been confirmed for us by Dan's Publicist that Dan has, in fact, signed on for the last two Harry Potter films. Dan will begin filming in September on Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. He has also signed on to return and reprise his role as Harry in the very last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This will "mark a place" in history for Dan and fulfill his wishes as he stated more than three years ago that he would like to portray "Harry" in all of the films.

As you know, it had been speculated in the media that Dan may not return to reprise the role of Harry after it had been published by several media outlets that Warner Bros. were upset with Dan's latest career choice in EQUUS. Warner Brothers quickly put that speculation to rest, and published an official press release confirming they were completely supportive of Dan's projects.

As you can see, you really can't believe everything you read! Let's all congratulate Dan in our comments section! Looks like Dan will have a busy two years ahead of him!

Official EQUUS Merchandise On Sale Beginning Tomorrow!
Posted by Page

I am pleased to announce that beginning tomorrow, 1 March, 2007 Equus merchandise will be available to purchase! As you know, on 16 February, I had a meeting with Dewynters, the Marketing firm who is promoting the play. They are also the wonderful firm completely responsible for the creation of the stunning graphic you see to your right! Starting tomorrow you will finally be able to order those posters that you've been waiting for along with a regular and/or fitted t-shirt! I had the pleasure of personally examining both the t-shirts and posters, and both are very well made. The t-shirts are solid black, with the graphic you see to your right on the front along with the word, EQUUS, on the back in white. The posters are printed on high quality, glossy art style paper. You WON'T be sorry with either piece!

One thing we feel we must bring to your attention, though, is that the poster is not your usual "one sheet" which is the normal size poster for the United States. The "folio" poster for sale in this instance is 12.5 by 20 inches which is typical for London's West End, keeping with the original "subway size" and promotion of stage productions. Don't buy your typical poster frame just yet, you will need to wait for the arrival of the poster first! The posters are primarily printed for use in business establishments and the underground for advertising. In keeping with

(Click to Download)

Dewynters wishes to make the process as simple as possible, we will not create an elaborate separate webpage or area for ordering the merchandise, but will alternatively offer the downloadable order form from our news section and the main site page at all times. The process is very simple. All you do is download the order form (PDF), fill it out, and fax it back to their office. This is the preferred process to keep your credit card information as secure as possible as ordering online can pose a threat.

If you need help with how to fax from your country to the firm, please email me directly, however, very specific instructions are contained at the bottom of the order form. If you are faxing within London or surrounding areas, you may or may not have to "drop" the leading zero.

With regard to having £1 per poster donated to Demelza House, the firm ensures me that they are still working out those kinks and are hopeful that it can be achieved very soon! Again, wait until tomorrow to fax your orders in and let me know if you have questions.

Evening Standard Interview With Dan
Posted by Page

In an exclusive interview between Dan and The Evening Standard, Dan revealed that the official opening night in which he would appear in front of other actors, tv stars, and politicians was a terrifying experience. Quoted directly from the Evening Standard:

In an exclusive interview with the Evening Standard, 17-year-old Radcliffe said that despite his nerves, he wants to pursue a stage career when the Harry Potter film series is completed. Dan said:

"Tonight was good but it was terrifying. We've been doing previews for two weeks and I thought this would just be another show. But when we got to the last hour I thought 'this is really big.' It was scary but there's so much goodwill backstage and to be on stage with Richard Griffiths helped."

When asked about his career on stage, Dan said:

"Being on stage is the most exhilarating experience I've ever had. Film is fantastic but the rush you get from being on stage is just amazing."

Peter Shaffer, the genius behind the painful and emotional story had these things to say about Dan's performance as Alan Strang:

"Daniel is marvelous considering this is his first ever performance on stage. Richard Griffiths was terrific as well. I'm very pleased with the production. It's deeply exciting."

The Evening Standard article also revealed many other Actors who attended the play, and a few of them are quoted as having kind words for Daniel. To read the entire article, see the scans below. Thanks Karen!

Dan Makes Forbes Young Hollywood Top Earning Stars
Posted by Page

Although we won't actually publish about the amount of money Dan earns per year or project, he has made one of Forbes' new lists, "Young Hollywood Top Earning Stars." Dan was ranked in their number two spot on the list. Quoted directly from Forbes:

Rank: 2
Estimated earnings:
Age: 17
Profession: Actor

Wizardry and witchcraft have never been an especially lucrative field. Not so for this British teen. His salary for portraying Harry Potter in the film adaptations of J.K. Rowling's wildly successful novels has reportedly increased fiftyfold since The Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. (He is rumored to get a slice of merchandising revenues off the next flick.) Radcliffe's pared-down performance in the British stage revival of "Equus"--he appears nude at one point--is already cultivating him legions of, ahem, more-mature fans.

Dan fell just behind Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, and in front of Lindsay Lohan.

Dan Doesn't Smoke, it's an Act!
Posted by Page

As of late, there has been much controversy in the media (which I'm sure you've read) that anti-smoking groups are fuming over Dan's smoking on stage. I feel sad that I even have to address this folks but will due to a massive influx of emails. Please note that Dan does not NOT smoke in real life. The cigarettes used on stage are simply props, they do not contain nicotine, and they are not addictive. To those of you who note how "natural" Dan looks while smoking, I would only offer that this is directly indicative of how great an actor he is (it IS an act....). While the groups are concerned that Dan is being perceived as smoking, and report that this behavior is "less than desirable" because he is a role model, it is an essential part of the play and I would invite anyone to see the play to gain the context of the scene's importance. To validate this point, David Pugh, the producer of the revival, said:

"If they are worried about smoking and not about the fact that he's simulating sex with a young girl on stage, it makes me think that they've got their priorities wrong.

"Daniel smokes in the play. He doesn't smoke in life. It's in the script and it always has been. It is not gratuitous. In fact, it's a very beautiful scene where Alan Strang (played by Radcliffe) is with his psychiatrist. The psychiatrist offers him a cigarette and it's really the first time the man and boy bond as they talk and smoke."

Please email me personally if you have questions regarding this issue.

New EQUUS Interview With Dan In The Telegraph
Posted by Page

The Telegraph has published an interview with Dan regarding EQUUS online today. Jasper Rees spoke with Dan and the rest of the cast about nudity, psychiatry and growing up on stage. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

JR Maiming a horse is a far cry from riding a hippogriff, isn't it?

DR Completely. There came a point on the third Potter film when I thought, acting is what I want to do. I thought it would be a bad idea to wait till the Potter films were all finished to do something else. There are certain people who will be more than happy to see you in any other role you like, and there will be some who will never, ever see you as anything other than Harry Potter. Once you've accepted that, it's fine - you just do whatever you like. With this, they can say I'm good or terrible but the one thing they can't say is I haven't challenged myself.

Towards the end of the play, Alan and a stable girl have a love scene that goes badly wrong. The scene is, in all senses of the word, revealing, in that it involves nudity. How do you approach it?

JA This is always the difficulty with people's obsession with the idea of nakedness. They forget what it's actually about. In a way, it has to be naked. It's not sensational. When this play was on, there was Abelard and Eloise, Hair, Oh! Calcutta! They were all taking their clothes off.

DR I didn't look at the nudity and go, oh great. But it's the same as doing a role with an accent or a particular affectation. You look at the character first. Lots of the actors that I've admired have at one stage or another taken their kit off. It's a rite of passage. That iconic scene is the physical and emotional climax of the play. So if I do that with pants on, it would be crap.

Page's Full Review of Equus
Posted by Page

Okay!  Now that I’ve had a chance to recover from the intense emotional experience that is EQUUS and had a chance to gather my thoughts together I’d like to share with you my impressions of Dan’s first leading role in a premiere production on the London stage.  I guess some of you will have read other reviews by now so you’ll know what an amazing job Dan did together with a fantastic cast and production team.  I don’t pretend to be a professional reviewer in any sense of the word so please bear with me as I try to convey as much as I can about this wonderful production.  The scenes described are not in order.  This is deliberate for two reasons.  Some people may be fortunate enough to have tickets and I don’t want to spoil their enjoyment or sense of wonder by going through every minute line by line.  I also was extremely privileged to see the production twice as well as be introduced to the Director, Thea Sharrock and the original genius behind the complex story which relays a struggle between sexuality and religion, Peter Shaffer. These are my thoughts generally over the course of the two performances.  Let me say, though, right from the beginning that this was one of the most incredible plays I have ever seen and that without doubt, Daniel Radcliffe SHONE – giving one of the most convincing portrayals to grace ‘the stage’.

"With one particular horse he embraces..."  The play opens letting us see a passionate embrace between a half dressed Alan Strang (Daniel Radcliffe) and Nugget the horse (Will Kemp). Although simplistic, the embrace between these two characters is an all powerful statement which depicts the relationship between the horse and the boy. I perceived it as cherished and sweet as Nugget gently lowers and angles his head as if to suggest perhaps compassion; sadness regarding his relationship with the boy or simply a horse’s unconscious movement.

The boy’s obsession with horses is later explained through a series of narrations by Richard Griffiths (Martin Dysart) whose performance as the psychiatrist charged with getting to the bottom of Alan’s actions contributes an equal amount of humor comparable to the tragedy exhibited by Daniel in what is the most compelling and artistic experience I have ever witnessed by the young man we at DR.co.uk support so much.

As far as Daniel’s character is concerned, Equus is the story of a boy who is completely torn between his father, a confirmed Atheist and his mother, a deeply religious woman. Alan’s journey is a very painful and emotionally psychotic one played to perfection by Daniel.

Experiencing complete freedom from either parent via a short ride on a horse on a beach at the age of six, Alan Strang says he felt the most pleasure he has ever had; a feeling that leads to him literally worshipping horses until he reaches 17 and commits the catastrophic act which brings him to a secure hospital and the attention of psychiatrist, Dysart.

I had the pleasure of experiencing the play from the above stage seating on Friday night's opening preview as well as from the centre stalls in front of the stage during the Saturday matinee. From atop the stage, many of the effects were better relayed, such as the beach with its ripples in the waves which couldn't really be seen from the front of the stage. However, the symmetry between the six horses central to the plot was better viewed in their equality and spacing from the front. The lighting, which fell on the horse head props, was also more intense from the front.  Although the actors’ delivery was perfect it was a bit hard to hear all their words from atop the stage and I would definitely suggest that if you wish to see the play you buy tickets in the stalls area.

The first scene where we actually hear Daniel’s voice opens up with his character, Alan, singing "Milky Bar" television jingles over and over, along with a menacing, piercing stare which remains constant throughout the play (unless experiencing happiness through re-enactment at times). This angry stare is described by Dysart as making him feel like he was being “violently accused” of some undisclosed crime. Not only did I feel, through his total command of his space, that Daniel may best be suited for a stage career, he also proved that he has quite the singing voice and can definitely hold a tune. Daniel had been rehearsing and working with a voice coach for nearly 18 months prior to the opening and my goodness, it shows in his delivery of some very complex dialogue.

Daniel was fully composed and seemingly relaxed and confident the first night. It was very apparent that he was up to the challenge of live stage. I had "great faith" in him six years ago, which is the very reason I chose to launch a Daniel Radcliffe website, and he literally moved me to tears with his performance on both occasions. Seeing his performance from the front was far more emotional as I could witness his every facial expression, whereas, from atop the stage, these can be very hard to see. I am extremely excited at the prospect of gaining a whole new fan base solely due to his West End stage performance!

Moving on to another key scene -  Alan is asleep and experiencing a nightmare. Daniel acted out the nightmare as if he were being held down by chains to the bed, jumping, jerking and screaming, "Eck, Eck (as in deck). We learn that Alan is fascinated by the word EQUUS, which his mother explains means the word "horse" in Latin. Dr Dysart visits with Alan's parents and learns that a cherished picture of Jesus Christ being bound by chains on the way to his crucifixion had been hung on Alan’s wall until his father, who became very angry one evening, forcibly removed the picture from the wall.  We hear that Alan was devastated for days.  The picture, which was later replaced by a beautiful picture of a white horse with eyes that faced the beholder full on, became the object of the child's obsession.

Through a series of conversations between Alan and Dr Dysart, the painfully emotional story unfolds.  It’s discovered, after a talk between Dr Dysart and Frank (Alan's father) that Alan "chanted" to the picture of the horse whom it’s ultimately revealed to be the ‘God’ Alan worships. Daniel’s portrayal of the scene where Alan is chanting to the photo, and puts the horse’s "bit" (the chinkle chankle) in his own mouth and becomes a horse screaming  "Equus! Son of Nequus! “and other related phrases is spine-chilling.

During a conversation with the owner of the stable where his patient commits his terrible crime Dysart discovers that Alan obtains a job at a local stables.  Totally uncomfortable with discussing any sort of sexual issues with his son or anyone else Frank instructs the Doctor to "ask him (Alan) about the girl."

A later scene shows Alan working in an electrical store, where he meets "Jill" and ultimately is pointed towards a job at the stables by her. She shows him how to groom a horse, a task way beyond Alan’s wildest dreams. After Jill leaves the stage the music and lighting go very dark and mysterious and the horses’ behavior becomes quite menacing.  Alan just stands there as the horses seemingly "move in" on him. He’s not afraid and begins to take the horses out during the night.

In one of the most memorable scenes, Alan goes to the stables in the dead of night,  takes off his shoes, socks and shirt, mounts a horse and begins to ride faster and faster. As he rides, Daniel is screaming out "HA HA! ONE PERSON, ONE PERSON!"

Dr Dysart determined to expose the truth behind this obsession and the crime Alan eventually commits, offers the boy a placebo (actually an aspirin) which Alan believes is a truth drug. The two begin chatting, telling each other stories and secrets. Alan is eventually coaxed into re-enacting the events which took place on the night things went very wrong with his father and Jill and the horses were blinded.  Dr Dysart believes that Alan is ready to tell him everything and convinces him to ‘act out’ what happened on the fateful night.

Opening with Jill sitting, chatting away, Alan tells Dysart that she says “silly things”. She tells him that he has “pretty eyes” and wants to know if he'd like to take her out. Eventually he agrees, and they go to see a "silly" film. Alan is discovered by his own father who also shows up at the theatre, and the truth becomes apparent to Alan, in that "his father is just like him." Shortly thereafter, an argument ensues between Alan and his father, and he won't return home and agrees that it's proper to walk Jill home. Jill ultimately leads him to the stables where they begin to become close and kiss for the first time.

Without going into extreme detail but with explanation to describe the horse obsession, what should be a tender scene follows between Alan and Jill.  However it ends in catastrophe with Alan explaining (through  the re-enactment of the sexuality between him and Jill) that "when he looked into HER eyes, he could only see HIS (Equus/horse) eyes. Alan mentions that he only wants to feel the horse’s body, not her’s (Jill’s). Becoming ashamed of his inability to react to Jill the way he feels he should Alan forces Jill to leave and threatens her with a hoof pick.

The next scene (the last) is perhaps the most powerful scene in the entire play. Alan (Daniel) begins to realize that he wants to escape the obsession, he begins to say, "no more", then runs to each horse and acts out the crime of blinding the horses. The music becomes very intense and  Daniel's movement on stage from one horse to another is heightened by the fact that he is nude during the scene.  However, the sheer energy of his actions is astounding. The nudity itself, at this point in the play, really has nothing to do with anything as compared to the emotional outburst which ensues just afterwards. As Alan sits there in the straw, he begins to ask the horses sarcastically to "find him" as if to challenge the horses to locate him now that they cannot see. The horses advance upon him angrily and begin to stomp, and in the end, Alan is rescued by Dr. Dysart while uncontrollably crying as if he were a baby in his mother's arm. The embrace between Dr. Dysart and Alan is very sweet and lasts for quite some time emphasizing  the full emotional experience. Dr. Dysart then tells Alan that he can now sleep without nightmares. At this point in the play, I would be very surprised if each and every one of you were not moved to uncontrollable tears, as I was.

The play ended with Dr. Dysart giving us an account as to his thoughts regarding Alan's future as a normal child, but questions,’ what is normal?’ Dr. Dysart also realizes just how unfulfilling his own life has been and in many ways "the boy" (Alan) had brought pain within himself. Daniel's performance throughout the play was flawless. I cannot say enough how very sad and painfully emotional this story is.  This play is a very complex one, but I would strongly encourage every "Daniel fan" to experience it. Although I do feel as though Daniel is an artist with a variety of acting roles (film, tv, stage) thus far, I feel in my own heart that Daniel has "found his calling" on the stage and this performance by him is by far the strongest artistically that I have witnessed.

The wonderful thing about plays, is that the story really IS in the eyes of the beholder. I would expect that many different people would come away from the play with a very different perspective or thought regarding it or perhaps an entirely different story altogether, and I would absolutely LOVE it if you would comment below either on my review or your own to share with all Dan's fans. I enjoyed meeting some of you at the stage door!

Special Note: I would like to also thank a dear friend of mine from London (she knows who she is...) for editing and reading my review points. I don't claim to be a professional writer by any means, however, her suggestions proved to be accurate as so far, your comments regarding it have been sincerely heartfelt. Thanks Tomz!

Brief Preview of Equus
Posted by Page

I've just returned from what can only be described as an amazing evening. I had the pleasure of previewing EQUUS and Dan's performance left me literally speechless. To say the least, his portrayal of Alan Strang, along with Richard Griffiths as Psychiatrist, Martin Dysart, was an intense and powerful emotional experience. I can't wait to share the finer details with you, however, I would like a few days to allow the experience to sink in so that I can do the play justice and I will be seeing the play again from a different angle tomorrow. I will share with you now, that Dan received a tremendous standing ovation which was truly well deserved and would be personally shocked if anyone seeing the play considered Dan's performance anything less than stellar.

UPDATED: Dan Talks About Equus and Harry Potter in Two Interviews
Posted by Page

Times Online has published an article in which they interviewed Dan regarding Equus and Harry Potter. Dan talks about shooting the last scene of the film, plus his experience working on movies sets and more. Gary Oldman, fellow cast member gave Dan some advice regarding being naked on stage:

"He said the first night is terrifying, the second is pretty scary, and after that you don't care. When you do it in a cold room and you are nervous, everything goes a bit shy down there, but I have been assured it will be nice and warm on the night. We have done the nudity scene twice with our clothes off, and my acting improved so much. It's hard to show that vulnerability you need for nakedness with your clothes on. Now I get them off at the drop of a hat."

What does Dan say regarding the play itself:

“A play to change how people think,” he says reverently.

Regarding himself as an actor and Harry:

“Better sooner than later. To some people, I will only ever be Harry. I know that, I don’t fight it. I don’t want to distance myself from him. I’m proud of that work. But I do want to show them that I am not Harry Potter. I am an actor.”

Regarding the last scene of the last film, Dan said:

"When I've shot the last scene of the last movie, I will be devastated. Harry Potter has provided my friends, seen me through my exams. I've had my first girlfriend, my first kiss. It's been my life."

Regarding Harry:

"I want him to die because I have a melodramatic yearning for a death scene. And the prophecy in the fifth book says only one of Harry and Voldemort can live. Or is it that neither can live while the other survives? Oh God, what is it? The fans will kill me if I've got that wrong."

While the article does mention that Dan has signed for the last two films, please treat this as a rumour as nothing has been confirmed regarding Dan's participation by his Publicist. It's just way too early. Thanks to Epsy for the tip!

UPDATED: The Guardian has also run an interview with Dan where he talks about both Harry Potter and Equus. That interview can be read here.

New Order of the Phoenix Hi-Res Images
Posted by Page

MSNBC exclusively previewed set designer Stuart Craig's work on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and along with their news, a few new images were posted. The interactive pictures come with a brief description of the scene. The first image is of Harry sitting in Snape's potion room. The other is of Harry at the Ministry of Magic and the description included was this:

"In this shot, taken from near the end of the film, Harry is deep inside the ministry and sees, for the first time, the long corridor of the Department of Mysteries, gleaming in black ceramic tile, which has been haunting his dreams all year. This dream will guide him and his loyal friends down this corridor, toward a room filled with glass orbs--a set which will be completely digital in the film. One of those glass orbs holds the prophecy that binds Harry to Lord Voldemort and that seals Harry's fate. This corridor will also ultimately lead Harry toward his greatest battle, and the death of someone very close to him." Thanks to Epsy, we have the two shots of Dan in high resolution versions.

Videos Regarding Equus' Views
Posted by Page

We have received many video submissions from fans as of late, two to include VH1's Best Week Ever, which Dan won, as well as "A Current Affair." Many of them are simply news briefs discussing the so-called controversy, and none of them contain Dan himself or host any interviews with Dan. After viewing them, I quickly realized that the same views were being expressed over and over from both supportive and unsupportive sides of the fence. Therefore, I feel it unnecessary really to host the videos, however, if you haven't already seen any of the videos and want to view them, I would suggest you either search YouTube, or email me, and if you cannot find it, I'll upload mine to YouTube.

First Interview With Dan Regarding Equus Photos
Posted by Page

UK News Site, "This is London" has published today, what we think are the first words from Dan himself since the release of the Equus Photoshoot. Although the pictures have received both a huge amount of support from Dan's fans, as well as some controversy, Dan assures everyone that he is completely comfortable with his role in the West End Play. Below are a few quotes which were taken directly from the article:

"I'm fine about it, Equus is an iconic play. The nude scene is part of it. I can't do it with my pants on. That would be rubbish."

"We've done the scene a couple of times in rehearsal. I had no particular qualms. There's nothing that would stop me getting my kit off if that's what the work demands. The key to serious acting is to lose your inhibitions, to become free and fearless."

"I feel OK about my body. Not totally, of course, no one my age does ... but I've gone to the gym to make sure. And many of the actors I admire, like Gary Oldman, have gone naked."

"Doing Harry is hard, without question. But this is a massive leap for me. Working with Richard Griffiths is a fantastic privilege. This feeling of being in a small company is so different from film where there are thousands involved yet you hardly get to see them. It's the most exhilarating thing I've ever done."

"The techniques are so different from film, even just the basics about projecting your voice without sounding as if you're yelling your head off - all that is new to me."

Does he hope his young fans will see Equus, or should they be stopped from seeing such a dark, adult play?

"I don't see any reason why you shouldn't bring kids because of people taking their clothes off, or because of violence to horses. But - and I don't want to insult the intelligence of children - really, a play about the nature of psychiatry? Do you think a five-year-old would be interested?"

This article contains a huge amount of information and I would encourage you as a Dan fan to read the entire article as it explains his approach to serious acting and how you must lose your inhibitions. Thanks to Carol for the tip!

There is a new Equus photoshoot image of Dan in the Daily Mail this morning. We expect to receive all the high resolution images some time today as confirmed by the Equus Producers this morning. To all the fans who wrote in suggesting that the articles written in the news media didn't support Dan's wearing jeans as I previously reported, the picture to the right will confirm my post of yesterday. Also, a few news outlets are reporting that various websites are receiving concerning emails from parents regarding the images. Interestingly, I have not received one concerned email from any fan or parent over these photos, and for the most part your comments and emails suggest the photos are beautiful in nature as they should be in the context of the content of the play. Thank you for that!!! Click the thumbnail at the right for a scan!

Webmaster's Note:

For those of you interested, the photoshoot took place in an aircraft hanger near Heathrow Airport on 20th January, 2007. It was a closed set with only the actors, Director, and Creative Director along with the Marketing firm. That firm is also responsible for the concept design of the EQUUS image, poster, and horse. The horse is called Capote and is the one who appeared in a famous commercial for Guinness in the UK.  Capote is trained by a man called Tony Smart, and is Billy Smart's son of Billy Smart's Circus fame (they are a famous circus family in UK). It was the biggest photoshoot ever shot for a play in the West End and the photographer Uli Weber has shot some of the biggest celebrities and stars - see his website.

USA Today Article and New Image of Dan from OOTP

Thanks to Warner Brothers for sending over the high resolution version of the image which appeared in USA Today online this morning. The accompanying article had many things to say about the new film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by Director David Yates:

The cast is growing older, film by film, and the audience is growing with them," says David Yates, director of No. 5. "That's what is beautiful with Harry Potter. Our story is the most emotionally complex one so far." That includes Harry's first kiss, shared with fellow wizard-in-training Cho Chang (Katie Leung). Yates assures that the film "has all of the whiz-bang whistles and bells as well." "We have centaurs, half-men and half-horse. A backwoods giant baby and Hagrid's half-brother, Grawp. And some beautiful, hypnotic thestrals that are only seen when someone has died."

Exclusive: Fan Expectations Regarding Equus and Dan
Posted by Page

Recently, many fans have inquired as to whether or not they may go backstage to meet with Dan after the play's end. While Dan as well as our staff can understand your excitement and anticipation of the play's production, unfortunately it won't be possible. We would like to share this message with you that we received earlier this afternoon from Dan's Publicist:

"Dan greatly appreciates the support his fans have shown him in the lead up to Equus and indeed all of his projects. And he's particularly delighted that so many have booked tickets to see the play. But, one thing that is worrying him is that so many have written expressing a desire to come backstage after the performance. The demands of playing this complex character, however, mean that this is just not going to be possible as he is on stage for eight performances a week for over four months. So, he really wants to implore fans not to think of the play as an opportunity to come backstage, as he would hate for them to be disappointed, but to come and see this amazing play and to enjoy the experience."

We are pleased to be able to help manage expectations of this, and of course if you have any questions whatsoever, please do write me an email as I'd be more than happy to speak with you. Because we are also sensitive to the fact that some fans aren't able to go to London and see the play at all, we are trying to secure a block of posters for our viewers, so that I may be able to send them out to some of you!

Equus Posters On The Way Soon
Posted by Page

It has been confirmed for DanRadcliffe.co.uk that Equus Posters will be on the way soon for purchasing. I get atleast two emails per day regarding the stunning poster and whether or not it can be purchased. The reason that many of you haven't been able to find the posters for sale is because they hadn't been approved or printed yet. A few "mailer posters" were available on eBay, however, those fold eight ways, and are not the original "poster size."

The posters have now been printed, prices are being negotiated, and we should have more information for fans very soon with regard to who

to contact and how to purchase them. It is possible that our site will purchase a big block of posters for our readers just for convenience, and if so, I will be posting them out to you.

Dan Always On The Lookout for Scripts
Posted by Page

Online news outlet, GeekMonthly, reports that "Dan realizes that he is on something of a strict deadline to establish himself as something more than the boy-turned-teen wizard. GeekMonthly spoke with Daniel and here's what he had to say:

“I think that’s absolutely right, that there is a timetable,” Daniel tells Geekmonthly.com. I need to get as much work between now and the end of the series and the immediate aftermath of the series as I can to prove to people that I can do it. That’s why I’m constantly on the look out for scripts and things to do. That’s why I’m doing two things between Harry Potter 5 and 6, if and when that happens. I do feel a need to say to people that I am capable of more than Harry Potter. That being said, I don’t pick roles specifically because they are very different from Harry Potter. You have to judge each role on what it is and who you’ll be working with. It just so happens that the films that have come my way are very different from Harry, and that’s a nice bonus, really. Having said that, Harry Potter is a very demanding part and really challenging. I don’t mean to make it sound like Harry is an easy ride, because it’s not. But with doing things like Equus and My Boy Jack, which is a World War I story about Rudyard Kipling and his son, and I did December Boys last year - hopefully all of these projects should begin to let people see me in a different light."

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix appears in theaters worldwide this July and My Boy Jack will be on British TV in October. Radcliffe makes his stage debut in London next month with Equus. Thanks to HPANA for the tip!

December Boys Release Date Announced?
Posted by Page

According to Warner Independent Pictures, December Boys is expected to be released August 2007. Quoted directly from the website:

Based on the classic Michael Noonan novel, "December Boys" is a story of four orphan teenagers growing up behind the closed doors of a catholic convent in outback Australia. For years the boys watch younger kids leave with their newly adopted parents and have come to the realization their time may never come.

The Reverend Mother gives the boys something to look forward to by sending them to visit the seaside for the first time. Their long awaited vacation doesn't turn out the way they planned until they meet Teresa & Fearless, a young autocratic couple that would make the perfect parents.

As men, they remember back to the 60's when, as boys, they spent their first tumultuous summer by the sea as they sabotaged each others efforts to be the chosen one only to discover the real meaning behind what it is to be a family, ie one of the "December Boys."

"December Boys" is directed by Rod Hardy, adapted from Noonan's novel by Marc Rosenberg, and stars Daniel Radcliffe.

Previously, there had been NO set date for the film's release, only that it was expected to be released either Spring or Summer 2007. As always, we like to confirm this information with Dan's Publicist just to be sure, and will keep you posted with more information as we learn it.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix At The Top of 2007 Sequels
Lists
Posted by Page

A variety of different media outlets over the past week have released their picks for 2007 sequels, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix tops many different lists. MTV has chosen Order of the Phoenix as their number one pick for 2007. As quoted directly from MTV:

"It's time for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago," Dumbledore tells Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. "I am going to tell you everything." And so he does. The real question is whether or not he'll tell us - the explanatory resolutions at the end of Rowling's books have been among the most glaring and obvious omissions from the series' films. And with big characters and plot points that fans reference with capital letters - the Prophesy, the Giant, the Senior Undersecretary, the Death, the Loon, the Order - there's enough here for two movies. After the series' climax in Goblet of Fire, Harry tries to warn the world of the return of Lord Voldemort to no avail. Fans with a keen eye will be attempting to divine possible plot points for the seventh and final book: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. No time-turners allowed - the film opens July 13.

Entertainment Weekly chose Order of the Phoenix as their number two choice saying:

"When the Ministry of Magic refuses to believe that You Know Who (Ralph Fiennes) has returned, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) builds an army of students to do battle. And if you don't know your Hogwarts from your Muggles, take heart: The saga wraps up with a seventh novel. (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, July 13; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, TBA)"

Dan will also have a stellar year as EQUUS is anticipated to be one of the top "draws" in the theatre in 2007 with ticket sales already exceeding £600,000 according to an article in the Daily Mail on 22 December, 2006.

Introducing Cyworld by Warner Brothers and Enter To Win
Opportunity!
Posted by Page

We were approached by Warner Brothers Online, and asked if we might like to help with a little bit of promotion regarding the introduction of "Cyworld" so I gave in! Cyworld is similar to the myspace concept, however, it's targeting a young audience. The difference is that you get your own personal room where you can purchase (with real currency) furniture, friends and decorations to individualize your space. It’s more a virtual environment than myspace.

Cyworld is now live in the US and you can enter to win 30 "acorns" redeemable in Cyworld to decorate your mini-home with cool skins, charms, furniture, friends and more!" Warner Brothers will be providing 30 acorns (worth $0.10 US per acorn), to one (1) winner from our site. To enter, please send us your name, address, city, state and zipcode from your preferred email account. This will enable us to forward our winner along to Warner Brothers so that you can be redeemed with your acorns. Our promotion and "enter to win" contest will end on 20th January, 2007. Good Luck and sign up to register so that if you are the winner, they can place your acorns in your account!

Webmaster's Note: Please be aware that our promotion of this new feature on behalf of Warner Brothers is, in no way, suggesting that Dan Radcliffe is a member at Cyworld. And to answer a related question that, to this day, I still receive tons of emails regarding, Dan also DOES NOT have a MySpace account. Our site also does NOT have a MySpace account as we do not want to confuse fans into possibly thinking that it belongs to Dan.

"The Fandango Fifty shows the importance of star power at the box office, and reflects moviegoer excitement about the real variety at theaters this year," says Fandango Film Commentator Richard Horgan.

Equus Article Reveals Important Details
Posted by Page

In an article which a few fans have sent us regarding the cast of Will Kemp as (Nugget the horse and the horse God) in Equus, some important details are revealed as to why the role of Will as the horse is so crucial. The actors playing the horses in the production will wear masks and hooves created by award-winning designer John Napier. Producer David Pugh said, "It'll create a vision of 7ft to 8ft horses on stage. Director Thea Sharrock added, "It's a crucial role because the play is all about a boy and his relationship with his horse", and get the message across that horses are a vital part of the boy's (Alan Strang's) imagination.

The article also reveals that the play has sold £600,000 worth of tickets with minimal marketing efforts (we'll take some credit for that!) Director Thea Sharrock also had these things to say with respect to Dan:

"I want to have a very serious focus with Daniel and Richard before the room gets crowded. It's Daniel's first time on dramatic stage. This isn't a vehicle created for Daniel. He auditioned and the best actor was picked. The fact that he also happens to be the actor who plays Harry Potter is beside the point. He and I have spent alot of time examining the text because things are very different with a play than a movie."

I apologize, we do not know the source of the article, but you can read the full article at this scan.

Book Title for Seventh and Final Harry Potter Book Revealed
Posted by Page

The title for the seventh and final Harry Potter book was revealed yesterday on J. K. Rowlings Website. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" certainly leaves us with a chilling and suspenseful mind! Although Harry Potter book news doesn't really pertain to Dan particularly, Dan has always stated that he believed that Harry should meet his death in the final book of the series, otherwise, Ms. Rowling might be asked by fans to continue writing the series. We have written to Dan's Publicist to ask if Dan has any specific thoughts regarding the book's title since it's release, and are hopeful that we might receive a reply.

On Rowling's website, she revealed that she recently visited Leavesden Studios and spoke briefly with the cast including Dan whose theory on Snape has changed:

"Dan has changed his theory on Snape; he says he doesn't want to be like one of those people who are photographed, beaming, next to mad dictators.'

Also, for those of you who are avid IMDB Readers (we are not....), Dan has made their annual STARmeter Top 25. Dan ranked #22 (down 4 from last year where he placed #18). You might notice that they make a notation that Dan "has appeared" in the play Equus." Please be advised that it is incorrect information on their part, the play doesn't open until February 2007. Thanks to HPANA for the tip!

UPDATED: New Picture of Dan and Director David Yates from Newsweek
Posted by Page

Thanks to Carol, our Japanese Correspondent for sending us a scan from Japan's Newsweek Magazine, issue 20th December. I suspect this may be the same picture which is to appear in Newsweek's 18th December issue expected to hit stands very soon. The article accompanying the picture from Japan according to Carol is the article we posted on 10th December below, therefore, we did not translate it.

From our post of 10th December and taken directly from the article:

Yates has pushed all the actors, in particular Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, to deepen their performances this time around. "I've stretched Dan quite a bit. He's a very intuitive person, very bright, quite sensitive," he says. "I'm just helping him wake those things up. You can see his determination and ambition, and he can switch things on a sixpence, so I can't wait for people to see what he's achieving."

As you might recall, in Dan's letter to me which we received on 24th November along with his new fan print, Dan mentioned that "David Yates was an inspired director who I would walk on hot coals to work with again." The entire article is a great one regarding the Director, please give it a read above!

Empire Magazine Scans & Extras Illustrated Scripts Now For Sale
Posted by Page

Thanks to Dee for sending us scans from Empire Magazine's latest issue which includes a few pages regarding Order of the Phoenix. The January 2007 issue contains a few quotes by Dan regarding his portrayal of Harry in this latest film:

"David [Yates] won't settle for anything that looks like acting. What keeps coming up a lot is his search for truth in the characters and their performances. He really wants it to be real. The fourth film was sort of about all the tasks, fighting dragons, and all of that. This film is about Harry fighting his inner demons more than dragons. It's about the emotional journey."

And regarding that new "do"......

"It looks great at the end of the fourth film, with sweat and blood matted into it, but we can't have every scene like that. And I like to imagine that Harry went home over the summer, angry, and chopped into it himself."

Leading Lady for Equus

According to the Daily Mail, the leading lady for Equus has been chosen, by Dan himself. Joanna Christie will play the teenage girl with whom his character, Alan Strang, has a relationship. 308 actresses were auditioned for the part of Jill, the stable gir,l by Director Thea Sharrock and producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers. The list was narrowed to six, each taking turns to perform scenes on stage with Daniel in a secret session at the Prince Of Wales Theatre. Joanna, 24, from Holmfirth in West Yorkshire (Last Of The Summer Wine country), was called back four times to test with Daniel.

"It was the chemistry between them, observed Mr Pugh, one of the producers of Equus, which will begin performances at the Gielgud Theatre on February 16, with a first night on February 27.

Mr Pugh joked: She was the one Daniel fancied the most, and that swung it for us."

Dan Interview in Extras Video Clip on HBO

Thanks to Epsy for letting us know that HBO's "Extras" Section of their website has added a video clip for the second series. The video clip includes a very small snippet of Dan whereby he says:

"I think people generally tend to think that, from interviews or whatever, they sort of know you, or know whom I am, assuming....And it would be nice to temporarily destroy the image they think they have of me."

The video clip can be seen at this link, or downloaded here from our site.

Dan Designs Furniture for Habitat!
Posted by Page

We have just received confirmation from Dan's Publicist that Dan, in fact, has designed a piece of furniture for "Habitat", a furniture company. The furniture, a children's bed, resembles a rubik's cube (cu-bed), which can transform into a hide-a-way or barracade! According to Caroline Cooren-Gleizak, Director of Communications of Habitat (in French):

"We asked several personalities to design the object or the piece of furniture of which they would have dreamed of as a child."

All proceeds go to Demelza House from sales of the furniture. We will research this more, to see if the bed can be purchased for children soon and the date on which the furniture goes on sale.

UPDATED: New Interview with Dan in Herald Sun & Other Media References
Posted by Page

The Herald Sun in Australia has posted a new, brief interview with Dan. According to the article, Dan is in Melbourne to present at the AFI Awards on 7th December (tomorrow in Australia). In brief quotes by Dan, he expresses his love of Melbourne:

"We just came here for a holiday a few years ago and fell in love with the place," Radcliffe, 17, said yesterday.

"We went to Sydney and Melbourne, and preferred Melbourne -- although that won't go down well with Sydney-ites," he laughed.

When talking about his post Potter film, December Boys, he had this to say:

"It does feel like a big deal and I am nervous about how it's going to be received, and I'm nervous about what people are going to say, but that's what happens," he said.

"I think people will like it and the one thing they genuinely can't say is that I'm playing Harry, 'cos it's very different."

We are making arrangements to try and capture video from the award show. We are under the impression that they are also airing about 30 seconds worth of footage from the film December Boys, however, we will need to check with Dan's Publicist for clearance on whether or not that can be posted, that is, if they air the footage.

Webmaster's Note: There is also information circulating in the media regarding Dan's suggestion of a children's bed style to "Habitat" VIP, whereby Dan suggests that a cool children's bed would depict a rubik's cube. The bed would have the ability to transform into a bed, hideaway, or barracade. It is noted that the money raised would be given to a children's hospital. We are currently trying to get clarity on this from Dan's Publicist, and will update with more information as soon as we hear something.

UPDATED: We've now got the full scan, thanks to fan Sharron from Australia. The scan hosts a much larger picture!

Exclusive: Christmas Message from Dan! Supplemented With
New Fan Print!
Posted by Page

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We are privileged to have received an exclusive Christmas message today from Dan for all of this fans that we wish to share with you! Along with the message, we received Dan's new fan mail print! Production of the new print will begin in January 2007. Dan is also urging you to make donations to Demelza House Children's Hospice rather than send him Christmas gifts. This has been his ongoing message for several years now. If you do choose to send Dan a gift, please understand that Dan will be out of the country until the new year so acknowledgments and thank you's will be delayed!

Click for Larger Version

"Dear Page

As I have now finished on HP5 and am about to take a break, I wanted you to have a copy of my new fan mail photo which will be sent out with a new newsletter from the beginning of next year. It was taken by Emma Hardy who took my photo for the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery.

As Christmas approaches, I would again urge my loyal fans not to send me presents but make a donation to Demelza House (which always needs support).

It has been a very exciting year for me. I had a great time making 'Order of the Phoenix' and working again with Gary OIdman, and for the first time Imelda Staunton, was simply fantastic. David Yates was an inspired director who I would walk on hot coals to work with again.

As many of you know I am going on stage next year, to appear in Equus and the letters of support I have received since the announcement, from many fans have been very exciting to read. Thank you for your words of encouragement.

Later next year I will film MY BOY JACK and again am completely thrilled to be working on this fantastic and very moving script. It is going to be a very full year and I will relish every moment.

Thank you Page for your honest and straightforward reporting of events this year - leaving the speculation to others. Thank you also for not jumping on the slightest bit of news and reporting it as fact before having it confirmed. I appreciate everything you do and know I can rely on you to present the truth to my fans without sensationalism - that is why we continue to enjoy working with you.

As I embark on projects outside the Potter franchise (DECEMBER BOYS, EXTRAS, EQUUS and MY BOY JACK) I would like to thank my loyal fans for continuing on this journey with me and following my career with interest.

I hope everyone has a happy, peaceful and fun Christmas and New Year!

Much love

DAN"

Dan's special messages always touch my heart, but this one has special meaning in that he recognizes "how respectful we are of having loaded news which is truthful and validated without sensationalism, leaving speculation to others." I, along with some of you, realize you can't always believe what's reported in the media, nor would we even touch some news or pictures which circulate! Although I admit I personally can sometimes be a bit "over the edge" with an "iron fisted" but polite approach, this is the very reason I am this way!

Thank YOU, Dan, for such thoughtfulness and always giving us the privileges that you do! We are always so delighted to be "representative" of your integrity, security, privacy, and well-being and will continue to deliver your fans the very best fansite possible!

Note: Please forgive us for watermarking the wonderful photo, however, we are trying to prevent eBayer's from printing and mass producing it, as the photo is in "extreme" early stages of production.

UPDATED w/Pictures: USA Today Feature on Order of the Phoenix Trailer
and Dan Interview
Posted by Page

USA Today has posted their review of the Order of the Phoenix Trailer Online, and it includes an interview with Dan. Dan talks about the film, Bellatrix Lestrange, the Death Eater, and the kiss scene with Cho Chang.

"Harry is waking up to the fact that life is very hard and people can be very nasty to each other and can do terrible things," says Daniel Radcliffe, 17, Harry Potter's alter ego, in a phone interview from London. "There's this ongoing theme which runs through the whole series, and that's a loss of innocence."

"She's the person, along with the rest of the Death Eaters, who is responsible for a further tragedy in Harry's life," says Radcliffe. (Readers of the fifth book will know what this tragic event is, but in the interest of keeping the movie's suspense, we won't discuss it here.)

"It was reported that we did huge amounts of takes, but actually you do that number of takes on any scene," says Radcliffe, whose next, even more grown-up role will be on the London stage in Equus in February. "Once you've covered it from all the camera angles, you've done about 30 takes. But because it's the kiss, it was sort of made out that I had requested to do well over 30 takes."

Movie magic takes on many forms.

Says Radcliffe: "I guess if there's one thing that people will be coming to see the film for, it will be the kiss."

The print version will be in the paper tomorrow accompanied by a few more pictures. Thanks to Sue for the tip!

We suspect that there will be many more to follow and of course have already inquired about those which will feature Dan as Harry! Special Regarding Kipling on BBC1
Posted by Page

It's Poppy Sunday in the UK and other Countries today, and undoubtedly there will be many World War I and II programme's shown today. BBC1 is showing a special tonite called "Kipling: A Remembrance Tale" at 6:35pm which last 60 minutes. Although Dan is not in the show at all, the show may give fans some insight into Kipling's son Jack, and how Kipling's life was scarred by the loss of his only son. As you know, we announced on 28th August that Dan will star in the ITV Drama, "My Boy Jack" which was written by and also stars actor/writer David Haig. Dan will star as "Jack", the son of Rudyard Kipling. See our news post of 28th August for more information. Thanks to Claire, our UK Correspondent for the tip.

Note: Poppies, which grew in the battlefields of Flanders during World War 1, were mentioned in the poem, "In Flanders Fields" (1915) by Lt. Col. John McCrae of the Canadian Medical Corps. This deeply moving poem provided the inspiration for the poppy to become the emblem of remembrance for soldiers who died in battle. This is why sometimes you see red artificial poppies on the lapels of some of the actors and actresses at the HP Premieres which are held in November.

Remembrance Day is held annually on 11th November, the last day of World War 1 in 1918. A two minutes silence is held in the U.K. every year at 11 am. Remembrance Sunday is the nearest Sunday to 11th November, when services are held in honour of those involved in war, and wreaths are laid on memorials in every town. Artificial poppies are made and sold annually, realising over one million pounds, to help ex-servicemen and women and their dependents.

Dan Speaks With Journalists Regarding Harry's Possible Fate
Posted by Page

Patrick Lee of Sci-Fi Wire, whom I had the pleasure of meeting personally on 1st September during my OOTP Set Visit, is reporting this morning that Dan spoke with journalists in a conference call on 6th November. It's reported that he spoke quite a bit about his feelings regarding Harry's fate and why he thinks ending the franchise with Harry's death makes sense.

Asked if he'll be playing a death in the expected seventh and final film in the series, Radcliffe said:

"That's a very good question. ... I like to think that I will. ... I think, personally, ... that's the only way [author J.K. Rowling] could ever halt any call for her to keep writing [Potter books], because, I mean, if Harry survives, she'll just be getting plagued by requests to write an eighth book for the rest of her life."

Also drawing a parallel between his character's relationship with Harry's nemesis, the evil Lord Voldemort, and the one between Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty, both of whom had to perish at Reichenbach Falls in order for the villain to be vanquished,

"I think it will be something to do with the fact that ... maybe the only way Voldemort can be killed is if Harry is killed as well," the 17-year-old actor said. He added: "My friend sort of compared it to both [Holmes and Moriarty] dying at the same time. But, obviously, he hasn't read the sequel [in which Holmes was revived]. So, yes, but that's the thing that I would sort of like to see coming."

Misquotes In the Media Regarding Dan
Posted by Page

Many news media outlets are reporting this morning that Dan may quit his career in acting to become a poet. While he has mentioned that he may like to "focus more" on writing some poetry, please be advised that this is definitely a MISQUOTE from the media. Dan has NO PLANS to quit acting nor has he "bad-mouthed" British teens which has also been misquoted in the media.

Daniel "Right Boy" for Equus According to Producer
Posted by Page

Producer, David Pugh recently interviewed with The Telegraph and revealed a few interesting details about Equus, some which explain parental guidance regarding children's attendance. He had alot of complimentary things to say about Dan:

"Daniel is fully committed to the role and he has not asked for any special favours."

Shaffer, who has resisted previous efforts to revive the play in the West End, agreed to back the revival after Radcliffe agreed to a private performance for the playwright at the Old Vic.

The article explains that this is most likely "very controversial" in parents minds, and goes on to explain the Producer's view on appropriate ages for the play or not...

"It wasn't a question of finding a play for Daniel to do because we knew it would be a hit," said Mr Pugh.

"I have been wanting to do a production of Equus for eight years and the problem has always been finding the right boy.

"When Daniel performed for us at the workshop we couldn't take our eyes off him."

To read the entire article visit The Telegraph, it's a very interesting read.

DanRadcliffe.co.uk's 2006 Annual Candle for Care Christmas
Fundraiser Open!
Posted by Page

Yes! It's that time again, DanRadcliffe.co.uk is formally launching it's 2006 Candle for Care Christmas Fundraiser for Demelza House for the third year in a row! And we have fab-u-lous prizes to give away including EQUUS Posters! And, yes, it IS Dan in the artwork so thanks for allowing me to tease all of you! This year's Christmas fundraiser comes at a special time, in that we have two reasons to be celebrating over the last week and upcoming weeks! First, the advanced ticket sales for Dan's fans, and now a reason to donate to Demelza house in order to win nice prizes!

We are also pleased to announced that on behalf of our site, DanRadcliffe.co.uk, we have given Demelza House two PREMIUM tickets to Equus for the first preview night, upfront and center stage, to be auctioned off at their convenience to help raise money for the Hospice, so we'll try to keep you posted on their plans for the tickets and more. We're of course hopeful that by the time they auction them off, the Play will have sold out, and a set of tickets like that will be considered HOT POTATOES!

We also have another VERY NICE project planned for this season as well which will be a well documented effort, that will help raise money for the children. We are unsure as to when the final piece of that will "unfold" but we are hoping to launch that during this holiday season and you will be literally "blown away" by the project which was a volunteer effort on behalf of a very special person.

As usual, we'd like you to use our Official Fundraising Page with Just Giving which, by the way, has been updated for us to run through January 2008, and of course we're still trying to reach our fiscal goal of £10,000! But, it is not mandatory, you can certainly donate directly to Demelza House. Either way, Demelza House gets every penny of your donation, we've just set up the Just Giving site as a better tracking mechanism for our site's efforts. Every detail of our fundraiser can be found at our Fundraising page below:

2006 Candle for Care Demelza Christmas Fundraiser

Now, on to the prizes! In our Raffle Extravaganza, our Grand Prize, is a pair of premium tickets to Equus (16 February, Stall Area), First Prize is an iPod Nano engraved with "courtesy of DanRadcliffe.co.uk", your choice of color, black or white along with a $15 Gift Card for iTunes! Third Prizes, will be Equus Posters, and all other prizes will include CD's, Gift Cards, and more!

Our fundraiser won't end until New Year's Day, 1st January, 2007. For those of you who are not familiar with Candle for Care, it is a Booklet that Demelza House prepares every year especially for Dan, which contains your personal special messages and Christmas wishes for him! When you forward me your world pay receipt email confirmation, or your Just Giving email confirmation, you should include your message for Dan. If you like, you can include your message for Dan on our Just Giving fundraiser page (if you don't consider it too personal; others will see it). If you have any questions regarding our fundraiser, please email me, otherwise, enjoy!

Dan Supports Film Club - Confirmed

I am sure you have all seen the reports about Daniel supporting the Film Club project. Earlier I was sent confirmation that he is indeed supporting this (sorry I just got home from covering an event so I couldn't post before now).

On the Film Club website teachers and pupils can order films, write reviews and rate movies, as well as access information about what's on at their local cinema. The club is designed to introduce youngsters to a broader spectrum of cinema. Film Club is currently in its pilot phase in 25 schools, with the intention to roll out to a further 10,000 schools nationwide in the UK this summer.

Letter From Dan

Many of you have been asking me about it...and I know it has taken a while...but I am happy to say Daniel has finally been able to finish going through everything that was done for him on ACED Magazine by the fans over the holidays - and we thank him very much for taking the time to do it! He is also very appreciative to everyone for their hard work and support for Demelza over the holidays, as he has said in the past. He wanted to send a special thank you to all of the fans that did participate in the ACED projects though, so... without further adieu:

-----

"I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond to ACED MAGAZINE but my life has been hectic and I just didn't have time to focus on it properly. I now have and I think it is simply wonderful. It absolutely blows my brain that you can actually get such an amazing magazine together in this way. I am just gobsmacked. So, a huge thank you to all my truly wonderful and loyal fans for all your hard work on this project and for your continued support. It means the world to me".

Love, Dan

-----

Of course, we are doing an entirely different kind of project this year for Dan's 18th Birthday - one that doesn't need to be read or sorted through, as ACED Magazine has become its own entity...and is a full-time job for me...and too much of a big beast for Dan to try and sort through everything all at once anymore. We will still do the Demelza projects through ACED Magazine, but that's it for the birthday front with regards to ACED.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the last round of fan projects, and thank you to the over-one-thousand fans that have already participated in the (yes I did say over one thousand) 18th Birthday project so far. I think this project will turn out simply amazing!

The more fans we get to participate the better. I think we should try for a record people - what do you say? I want to see how many thousands of fans we can get on board for this one. It's easy and fast - everyone can do this one. I will even set up a thumbnail gallery for you to see that your pic was included. Quick - Do it today!

Daniel to Stay on as Harry in Last Two Potter Movies

With all the recent excitement, flurry of posts, glowing Equus reviews and cyber parties going on here, some of our faithful readers pointed out that we forgot to officially announce that Daniel has signed on to play Harry in the last two Harry Potter movies (although both Jenna and Allo hinted heavily about this in some previous posts and comments).

So:

Dear readers, we are beyond thrilled to officially announce that Daniel has signed on to play Harry in the last two Harry Potter movies of the series! *throws cyber confetti* rolleyes.gif

New Interview with Equus Director Thea Sharrock on BBC Radio Womans Hour

Equus director Thea Sharrock was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's woman's hour this morning. During the interview, Sharrock spoke about the unusual amount of pressure surrounding the production and, of course, had nothing but praise for Daniel and his acting abilities:

quote:
"He is an absolute consummate actor in his own right... This is an enormous leap for any seventeen-year-old to do... He brings with him an extraordinary discipline and level of professionalism, and that was an absolute gift for me."

The Saddle and the Damage Done

Our very own Dr.com reader, Danilo, wrote up an article for ACED Magazine regarding Equus, exploring the Religious and Metaphorical meanings behind many plot points in the production.

It is a fabulous read for those of you that have read the play, have seen or will see the production. It may also help to explain and enlighten those who were initially turned off by some of the more "racy" scenes in Equus. Make sure you leave some comments and rate his article while you're there. Show your support!

The Saddle and the Damage Done

Equus Merchandise and Demelza Charity

For those of you who can't go to see Equus - you can buy Equus memorabilia. Merchandise went on sale Friday. The production crew is selling t-shirts and posters for the play. This is special. Merchandise is generally not sold for straight shows. It is generally only done with musicals.

You can buy the t-shirts and posters directly from our site by downloading this PDF form. (I will add a banner to the top of the site this weekend). You just need to fill in the appropriate fields and fax it to the correct number written on the form, depending on your location. If you have any questions about it you can E-Mail Me.

On another note, the Equus production crew are such fantastic, generous people - they are donating a few t-shirts and posters to our website for our Demelza Charity fund-raiser for Dan's upcoming 18th birthday drive!

Anyone who participates in Dan's 18th birthday Demelza Charity drive will automatically be eligible to win one of the t-shirts, posters, and another little somethin' somethin' that will remain a secret for now. Each will come with their own Equus production insert - straight from London. More information on the fund-raiser will be coming soon.

PS - for those of you ordering outside of the UK, you can do conversions to pounds sterling at THIS WEBSITE.

ADMIN: If You see this post you are on the new server

I am just trying to sort out a few last bit of transfer issues, but for the most part - everything is over and running. The forum should be up soon - if it isn't already for most of you. (It is working fine for me right now).

ADMIN: Some things are moving...

Yes I can hear your grumbles from here, there and everywhere - but... It is necessary. We are doing an upgrade for the forum so it will be down temporarily. We are also switching hosts - again - to make things EVER BETTER and faster. We are joining Leaky's host Idologic. These guys have just been amazing.

The site is actually all ready on their server, we are just waiting for things to propagate through the net before switching over fully. You most likely will not even notice the switch, but if we are unreachable at any time you will know why. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN so don't panic. - Trust me, I panic enough for all of us.

I have loads more to publish today (Equus related and more) so please be patient with me as I am trying to do a gazillion things at once right now.

HP Fan Trips - Upcoming Trips for 2007

HP Fan Trips announced a new slate of tours to the UK to coincide with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. These 3-night and 4-night packages in Edinburgh and London offer an affordable way for fans to celebrate the final book in the Harry Potter series with this once-in-a-lifetime event. HP Fan Trips has conjured up a fantastic mix of Harry Potter-themed activities while leaving plenty of free time for fans to participate in official book release events and events which may be planned by fan websites.

I can definitely say these trips are well worth the money and time. They do a superb job catering to the fandom. You can read a review about the trip I took last summer HERE.

For more information on the trips they have (including a special theatre trip for Dan's stage debut), visit their official site for a list of available itinerary and fan packages.

Radcliffe Makes Equus a Hit According to Review in the Telegraph

Hold on to your hats! This was just posted on the Telegraph's website. The reviewer, Charles Spencer, did NOT like the play, but he LOVED Daniel's performance!

quote:
"Daniel Radcliffe brilliantly succeeds in throwing off the mantle of Harry Potter, announcing himself as a thrilling stage actor of unexpected range and depth.

Those of us who have watched the Potter films with our families have always liked Radcliffe, who has a rare natural charm about him, and he has improved greatly as an actor as the series has progressed.

Despite minimal previous theatrical experience Radcliffe here displays a dramatic power and an electrifying stage presence that marks a tremendous leap forward.

I never thought I would find the diminutive (but perfectly formed) Radcliffe a sinister figure, but as Alan Strang, the play's teenage anti-hero who undergoes psychotherapy after viciously blinding six horses, there are moments when he seems genuinely scary in his rage and confusion. There are fleeting instants when you even detect a hint of Voldemort-like evil in his hooded eyes.

It's an illusion of course - Strang is just a classic mixed-up kid, lonely, sexually confused, and with a love of horses which has become disastrously tangled up with his mother's hard-line Christianity.

It helps of course that at 17, Radcliffe is exactly the same age as the character he is playing, and he superbly lays bare the sheer rawness of youth, the sudden mood swings of adolescence, and that intense unforgettable feeling that you are in a hostile world all on your own. I have a hunch that this play is going to attract a very large audience of devoted teenage girls.

The actor keeps turning the emotion on a sixpence, switching from sullen anger to raw vulnerability, or from terrible pain to a sudden childlike innocence and charm. And in the nude sex scene that has had all the media in such a tizzy, he and his partner Joanna Christie beautifully capture the awkward tenderness of young love before the action moves into altogether darker territory."
There's more to come. Many thanks to Lauren and Barbara for the tip!

Brilliant First Review of Dan in Equus

There is an excellent first review of Daniel's work in Equus at Broadwayworld.com:

quote:
"As Alan Strang, Daniel Radcliffe is a total revelation. Casting off his Harry Potter magician’s hat, he gives a performance of amazing maturity. At the right times boyishly cute and winsome, he is also convincingly troubled, withdrawn and disturbed, bursting into fury in a way that is for one special moment quite heart-breaking."
There is also high praise for the powerful scene at the end of act one:
quote:
"the vision of an emotionally charged Alan Strang sitting high on the shoulders of a human horse with a bright steel head, becoming as one with the animal he worships, is one of the most powerful Act One closings an audience is ever likely to see."
Way to go Dan! We are all so very proud of you! Hopefully there will be many, many more excellent reviews like this one to come in the following days!

To read the entire article, click on the link listed above. The reviewer, Robert Gould, had nothing but good things to say about the entire production. Many thanks to phoenix52 for the tip! amuse.gif

Equus: It's Now Curtain Time...The Sequel!

It's now 7:00PM in London... Curtain time! (exceptionally, the show starts at 700PM this evening)

quote:
"Hide not your talents, they for use were made. What's a sun-dial in the shade?... Benjamin Franklin"
On February 16th, you all sent wonderful thoughts and prayers Dan's way when the curtain went up on the first preview performance of Equus; the positive energy we generated as a group was probably strong enough to light up the entire stage at the Gielgud Theatre, and Jenna's review is absolute proof of what the power of positive thinking can accomplish (along with, of course, dedication and hard work!).

The curtain is now rising on the very first 'official' performance of the play. Once again, let us unite as one in spirit and in heart so that our wishes reach Dan from all corners of the globe. Break a leg again, Daniel! We all know that you and your fellow cast members will do an outstanding job for Equus' official opening to the public and the media! love.gif

On a side note: remember that DanRadcliffe.com has provided its readers with a handy link to book tickets for Equus directly on the theatre's website: just click on the black square with the word Equus written in white towards the top right hand corner of the main news page, and follow the user friendly directions. You will need a valid credit card to complete your purchase and, if you live outside the UK, will be required to show the same credit card at the box office when you retrieve your tickets on the day of the show (tickets cannot be mailed to addresses outside the UK).

Dan's 18th Birthday Project

You have all been doing an amazing job with this latest birthday project for Daniel. We have had well over 2000 entrants to this project already!!! Give yourselves a hand people. This still isn't enough - we need MORE!

If you haven't sent in your photo to be included in this monstrous photo mosaic - there is no time like the present. (Please keep in mind duplicate entries will be deleted.) ONE entry per individual. Send your photo in NOW.

This weekend we will be launching our Demelza fund-raising project that goes hand-in-hand with the mosaic project. There will be participatory prizes and a special fan-dedication piece for those that donate. More details coming!

Dan's MySpace - er - NOT

Because we have been getting many, many e-mails about a particular MySpace account that claims to be the "official" Daniel Radcliffe MySpace I am going to post about it here. So let me just say this rant about it then:

NO, NO, NO - Dan does not now, has no plans for, and will not have a MySpace account (this includes any other online community, chat or e-mail to fans - if someone says they are Dan they are lying). Dan does not chat with fans online, e-mail them or create online community profiles.

This is something he has said on many occasions to the media, through our website and to me personally. This is also something I have repeatedly posted about here as well. Nothing has changed.

For all of the HP and Dan fan sites that have posted about it (you know who you are), or told people it was real - you need to retract your advertisement for this fake "space" - please.

It is not nice to fool innocent fans about such things, but many people think it is great fun unfortunately. Please check about these things before you post news up that could potentially be harmful to those reported to. The imposter's "MySpace" will be dealt with. Thanks to all of you who wrote in about it. weird.gif

More Praise for Daniel from Equus Co-Star Joanna Christie

In a recent interview for theatre.com, actress Joanna Christie, who plays stable girl Jill Mason in the current West End revival of Equus, spoke in glowing terms about meeting and working with Daniel Radcliffe:

quote:
"He's so down to earth and normal. He doesn't make you feel nervous. There's nothing starry about him. He's one in a million. He's 17 and he's had such an extraordinary life—he could be a nightmare and so messed up by his bizarre teenage years, living on a massive film set and having enormous global fame. But he's so lovely and such a gentleman and so polite and intelligent. He's an amazing guy."
Joanna also had this to say about Daniel's acting and his many loyal fans:
quote:
"It's been great for Daniel—it has given him the respect he deserves as an actor, and he has proved himself more than capable of doing something apart from Harry Potter. But more importantly than that, the response from Daniel's fans and regular theatregoers and anyone else who has just been curious has been absolutely amazing. The audiences are such a mixture of people, and they all really, really love it. There are hundreds of people at the stage door every night, and they're all very complimentary. That means a lot."
Of course we already know all this, but isn't it lovely to read such comments over and over again? amuse.gif

Many thanks to Kasey for the tip!

Scans Galore

Lots of scans! I am playing catch up due to my moving and everything so I have had limited access to the internet until now.

Thanks very much to Lynda, Tracey, Mary, Kim, Michelle, and Lauren for sending in scans to OK Magazine, Sci-Fi Magazine, Movie Magic, Total Film, The Sun, Sky Movies, Entertainment Weekly and Ripley's Believe It or Not Comic. There are 63 scans in all - needless to say I am not posting all of the links in this post! You can sort through them in the two main galleries where they were posted below:
