The 4-Ever Amigos 4-H Club is based in Southern Rhode Island. 4-Her's participate in the horse, dog, rabbit, other animals of their choice, community service, and leadership projects. Every year the children pick a special club project in addition to their own choices of personal interest projects. For the 2006-2007 4-H year they chose to work along with The Westerly Land Trust in cleaning up The Grills Preserve in Bradford, RI. Environmental issues in this 500 acre land site helped the 4-H members to learn more about helping their neighboring communities and the impact of dumping garbage and waste. The club was given a $1400.00 Youth In Action Grant supported by Cumberland Farm, where they applied this money towards helping the Land Trust to clean up several areas in the Preserve. For the 2007-2008 4-H year, the 4-H members have chosen Working With The Elderly as their club project, where they will be visiting Nursing Homes with their animals, reading to patients, making food tray decorations, learning about elderly programs, etc. The 4 Ever Amigos applied for and have received another Youth In Action Grant supported by Cumberland Farms. They will put this money to good use by helping the elderly in their communities. The club meets at Diane Martin's home in Hope Valley, RI. Diane shares her horsemanship knowledge and gives hands on horse related workshops prior to the General Meeting times. The 4 Ever Amigos hold their general meeting, run by Officers elected each year, with an agenda highlighting past and upcoming 4-H events, field trips, projects, etc. Meetings are held on Saturday mornings at 9:00 AM. For the horse kids, Diane meets around the general meetings. Some Saturday meetings are held along with field trips and/or community service projects or project workshops. Diane encourages parents and members to take on a craft or project after the meetings. For more info on RI 4-H please visit http://www.uri.edu/coopext/4H. Diane welcomes parents to assist with the club's meetings and activities or if an adult may be interested in starting their own club, you are welcome to come and attend a meeting. Mentoring new Leader's is another interest for Diane.
