40s Fashions

Having only come into 40s re-enactments 3yrs ago, I was immediately smitten with the wealth of costumes available at some of the stalls at the big events eg Glenn Miller Festival at Twinwood. I also noticed that some of the vendors were selling replica 40s dresses at extortionate prices and claiming they were originals!!!

Now that simply is not on in my view, the big give away to me was that a lot of the labels were missing, and you can't tell me a bomb blew them off, which means that they could claim them as original without any come back, and who is to know the difference.

Well I could. You see I spent many years in a clothing factory, 17 yrs in total, and having been a machinist all I had to do was look at the inside of the garment and wow did it tell me a story!!!

I decided that the time was ripe to dust off my old sewing machine, not a treadle I hasten to add, and my overlocker, give my scissors a good oiling and sharpening and buy some original 40s patterns. I will also get down from the loft my knitting machine and look out all those old patterns that I've got as well and get my machine oiled and back in working order again.

The aim of this site is to offer you a 40s style garment at a reasonable price. As an example I saw a 40s replica sold as original for £90+, I aim to offer the same type of garment for no more than you would pay for a new dress or jumper at your local clothes store. From time to time I will be offering a special so watch out for that.

Also you will find that I will be catering to the larger lady, we get shoved out at these events and can find nothing to fit us so this is where you win and the extortionate vendors lose out.

I will, once I can find some patterns, offer uniforms of the 40s. Unfortunately these won't be army, navy,  or air force, but more likely nursing aprons, caps & capes.

REMEMBER:  All garments on sale here will be made from ORIGINAL 1940's patterns. I do not claim, nor will I ever claim, that they are from the 1940s. Honesty is always the best policy. If there is something you want to know then please email me at Admin or Orders
