Just a quick update following the challenge, we managed to complete the 3 mountains in a time of 23 hours and 22 minutes, finishing at Pen Y Pass car park (Snowdonia) at 3:22pm on Sunday 15th June after changing our start time to 4:00pm on the Saturday. This was an amazing achievement from not only the 7 climbers but also the support team who undoubtedly were responsible for saving us the time needed.
A full report will follow shortly...
We now have forms and a bank account set up so please look at the Sponsorship page for info on how to sponsor us!
At 5.00pm on Saturday 14th June 2008 a team from the Marston's depot in Totton will begin their attempt to climb the three highest peaks in the UK; Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales, in 24 hours. This is quite some undertaking, when you consider that the driving alone will take in the region of 10 hours and the majority of the eight climbers are fat, useless and struggle to climb the stairs.
The team will be doing this in aid of three very worthy causes; Wessex Heartbeat, Wessex Neurological Unit and The Mountain Rescue Services of England, Scotland and Wales. These charities have been carefully selected by the team for a number of reasons which you can read about on the 'Charities' page.
Althought the challenge will be completed in 24 hours there is 9 months of work ahead for the group, not only for the 8 climbers but the 5 members of the support team. Our aim is to raise a serious amount of money to be spilt equally between the three charities, as well as this we need to get into shape, learn to read maps, refresh ourselves on first aid, beg / steal / borrow equipment, plan routes (for climbers and drivers)etc etc.
Over the next 9 months we will update this site with news on our progress, photo's and stories from our training, trial runs etc and let you know how we are doing in terms of fundraising.
What could YOU do to help, while we are doing all of this?...
In the meantime please have a look through our site and leave comments in the guest book.
