Recent Family Relocated to Buffalo – Needs Community’s Help - Rescued Miniature Greyhound Missing!

Buffalo, ny, October 9, 2008:  A young couple, Meredith and Chris Rissmiller, and their two Miniature Greyhounds (Italian Greyhounds) had high hopes when they moved to the Elmwood Village this past July.

Fast forward to Friday, October 3rd at 7 pm. Colby was walking with his dog sitter at the corner of Cleveland Ave. and Cleveburn Ave. in the Elmwood Village. Colby became scared when confronted by a stranger and broke free from his harness.

A frantic search began. Postings on Craigslist, ads in the Buffalo News and ArtVoice, postings on various websites, flyers on every available light post-- the couple even hired findtoto.com to make 5,000 calls to area residents to alert people of the missing dog. Thousands of flyers have been handed out or posted. The Rissmillers are not sleeping or eating. I’ve looked into their eyes and seen complete helplessness and desperation. This dog means the world to them.

“We were immediately attracted to the city of Buffalo and the Elmwood area because of the kind people and tight-knit community. This is even more evident as there are individuals who were complete strangers just a week ago helping us search for Colby and spread the word. We are grateful that the community has helped us and supported us as we search for our dear Colby. We appreciate the continued support and will do anything to find Colby!”, says Chris Rissmiler.  This community MUST come together, animal lovers or not, to help get this dog home!

Colby is a neutered male, 4 years old, with no identification since he slipped his harness. He is black and white with a black/white split face. He also answers to “Tucker”, the family’s other dog.

Why this case is so desperate:

·         Mini Greyhounds can not survive in the cold (due to their very short and thin “hair”, rather than “fur).

·         Mini Greyhounds are fragile dogs. They have special needs.

·         Colby was a rescue, has a history of a broken leg, thus less stamina to survive.

·         It has been close to a week, he needs food and water!

·         Some people have been telling the Rissmillers horrible things, such as: someone is trying to sell him for dog fighting; someone is keeping him- imagine hearing those awful things as a loving, responsible owner.

They cannot do it alone

As a community, we need to show the Rissmillers, and Colby how much Buffalo people care about the people and animals in their community. Since they are new to the area, thay do not have the help they need. They are trying to do this all on their own. The Rissmillers are offering a reward to all information leading to them finding Colby.

Here is what you can do to help:

·         Please report ANY sightings of Colby day or night to Meredith & Chris Rissmiller: 703-855-2981 or 703-371-4063.

·         Pass out flyers: The Rissmillers can get flyers to you. Pass out flyers in your neighborhood.

·         Help with the search: Get a friend, a neighbor, a family member and search your street!

·         Tell all of your friends and co-workers: Show them Colby’s picture. Talk to your kids.

·         ***Look***: In your own garage, shed, under porches, anywhere that a little dog could be hiding. He likes to climb on top of things, possibly porches and fire escapes. Colby likes to bury himself to keep warm; check under houses and vacant garages.

·         Colby may become frightened when approached - PLEASE DO NOT CHASE.

·         Colby loves treats: "pupperoni" and "cheese".

I will donate 100% of sales until further notice to a special fund I set up at Animal Rescue League of NH in Bedford http://www.rescueleague.org/ in memory of my Lambie Pie. A greyhound that I lost in Dec 04 to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. The fund helps prevent TBD and help animals that come to the shelter with a TBD(tick borne disease) as well as educate the public.   Ticks can survive the winter!!!  Be sure to use protection all year long.  To know more about the fund - follow the link at the top.

We hope to one day have more Lambie Smile Funds set up with other groups in other places. If you are interested in setting up a fund, please contact me. btwiepert@gmail.com
