The oldest group in the world.
Inaugurated 24th January 1908
We are 100 years old

After the inauguration, the 2nd Birkenhead was the first purpose built Scout hut in the world.
The 2nd Birkenhead Scout Group have a strong claim to being the first independant group in the world. When Baden Powell visited Birkenhead YMCA in 1906 and again in 1907 he announced his vision for "boy scouts". During this time he was introduced to two people already running scout groups in Birkenhead. One was the 1st Birkenhead (YMCA) and the other was the 2nd Birkenhead. The 1st Birkenhead group has long since closed, but the 2nd Birkenhead group is still going strong.
These meetings with Baden Powell were recorded in the local paper and can be viewed at the main Birkenhead Reference Library on Borough Road in Birkenhead.
The 2nd Birkenhead group meet weekly at our headquarters at 68 North Road. We run all sections, Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts on the same evening, although at different times. This allows the leaders, Mark, Rita, Graham and Nikki, to create a common thread throughout the three sections at each meeting.
We do many different activities, we regularly go as a group to the local baths, or visit the local cinema, sometimes our meetings take place in the local park, where we play football, rounders etc...
