2006/07 Premiership - A new way of scoring

Let's see if we can't shake up the table

Did you know?

Fun facts from the Premiership from it's birth up to the close of the 2005/06 season.

We all know Arsenal's amazing record of 49 unbeaten games, but did you know that the two teams with the shortest sequence of unbeaten games in the premiership areSwindon and Watford, with 2 games each?

Sunderland reigns supreme (unfortunately) with a sequence of 20 consecutive defeats, but only Manchester United and Sheffield United share the shortest sequence of defeats, with 3 each (Arsenal had 4 and Chelsea 6!).  No other team apart from Sunderland is in double figures

Arsenal also holds the record for the longest sequence of wins - 14, but poor Wolverhampton are the only club to have never had back to back wins in the premiership.

Some of the most successful clubs in the premiership are amongst those who suffered the heaviest defeats, though non compare to Ipswich's 9-0 defeat.  The four clubs who's worst defeat is "only" 4-0 are Birmingham, QPR, Sheff Utd and Wigan.

In terms of disciplinary, it's not good to see some of the biggest clubs are the worst offenders, with Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all in the worst 10 (out of 40 clubs!), but the worst record goes to Everton, with 961 cards from 544 games.  West Ham has the worst "average" with 756 cards from 426 games (just beating Everton and Leeds).

Everton have conceded more goals than any other club, with 739 conceded from 544 games.  Southampton conceded one less goal, but played 38 fewer games.

Only Man Utd and Arsenal have conceded an average of less than one goal per game.  Man Utd conceded 489 from 544 games, Arsenal conceded 481 from 544 games.

Man Utd are way out in front in terms of goals scored, beating Arsenal's 911 goals by a whopping 146 goals.

Sunderland is the only club to have played over 200 games in the premiership who have scored an average of less than a goal a game (214 goals in 228 games).  The only other club with a 3 figure number of games in the premiership to have that honour is West Brom (96 goals from 114 games).

Man Utd and Arsenal are the only two teams to have scored more than 1,000 points in the premiership so far.

Teams in the Premiership this season who are out of the top 20 all time league are:

  • Fulham (23rd with 236 points from 190 games)
  • Portsmouth (30th with 122 points from 114 games)
  • Reading (40th, no games so far)
  • Sheff utd (31st with 94 points from 84 games)
  • Watford (39th with 24 points from 38 games)
  • Wigan (35th with 51 points from 38 games)

Leeds are the only team from the all time top ten (9th with 692 points from 468 games) not to play in the premiership this season.
