From their 18th century barn near Whitstable, Kent, the duo of Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin
at Smallfilms have produced some of the most charming and baffling British childrens animation
ever made. Perhaps the most notable of the series they are responsible for in terms of its impact on
popular culture is the Clangers.
Like all good childrens programs the Clangers live an idealistic life. The narration by Oliver Postgate illuistrates the differences between life on Earth and life as a Clanger in an almost poetic manner. One of the series most endearing features is the way it balances a homespun - or home knitted - morality with the Clangers enduring charm. The Clangers are, and will remain an icon to the culture of the late 60s. |

So where has clangers.co.uk been for the last year or so? Well it’s a long story and one including bona vacantia, dodgy crown solicitor behaviour, legal challenges, 2 bankrupt ISPs, UK Nominet sending replies to letters over a year late, UK Nominet changing their rules, me changing countries twice, filling in forms and a nice lady at Nominet. Blah, blah, clangers.co.uk staggers to its feet once more ... but what you want is the Clangers ... so lets not delay. Ooh and grab one of those nice new DVD’s while your at it. |
