A childminder is a child care professional who undergoes rigorous checks and regular inspection and childcare training to ensure suitable and safe practice and is accountable to OFSTED.  

Childminders are regularly inspected and must provide and maintain a service that continues to meet national standards. 

Paediatric first aid training must be kept up to date and re-taken every three years for safety assurance. 

A childminder is able to provide a 'homely' environment for your child, and caring for a limited number of children enhances the quality of care that can be given to each individual child. 

She/he can work flexibly, and will always respect your wishes regarding the way your child is cared for.  

Certain childminders can even care for your child in your own home if you prefer (having been approved by OFSTED first to be able to provide this care).  

A childminder may also provide weekend childcare, including overnight care, especially useful for those working shifts (providing there has first been further inspection and approval by OFSTED to provide overnight care). 

Accredited childminders are able to provide early years education (with further training and OFSTED approval).
