Projects

On the Squadron, every Cadet from 1st Class and above has to have a Project to do. Project Nights are normally on a Friday and last the whole of the Parade Night.

Projects on offer at the moment include the Flight Sim (Simulator), Aircraft Recognition, Aircraft Modelling and the Squadron Band, however in the past we have also had Engineering and Radio on offer and these maybe used again in the near future.

The Flight Sim. (Simulator) involves using the 'Flight Simulator 2002 and 2004' Programme; we use this to teach the basics of flying, aerobatics and navigation, and when we are not teaching we suggest they select an aircraft and fly it.

Aircraft Recognition provides Cadets with healthy competition between each other by putting down the correct Aircraft type and manufacturer from certain pictures shown, and the Cadets who gain the highest scores over a period of time can represent there Squadron at Wing Training Day, where you will compete against other Squadrons in your Wing. Aircraft Modelling allows Cadets to bring in a model of their own choice and build it down at the Squadron. They can gain some excellent advice on how to improve their Modelling ability, and get the tricks on how to build and paint them to a high standard. Also Cadets get the chance to enter their models for when it is Wing Training Day, however there is normally a theme to follow.

All about the Squadron Band is explained below, yet any other ideas for Projects please do not hesitate to let us know about them.

Squadron Band

110 are one of a few Squadrons lucky enough to have a Band. The Band is full of dedicated members of the Squadron Staff and Cadets who put in 2 Nights a week for extra practice. When it is a Project Night on the Squadron, Band members usually go and practice in the Band Room. The other Nights mentioned, which is out of Squadron time are Wednesday: 7:00 - 9:30pm and Sunday: 4:00 - 6:30pm.

Being part of the Band has many advantages because it can help members with their Duke of Edinburgh's Award, they find they have a sense of belonging and in general being apart of it is very rewarding indeed.

The Band has been active for 21 years on the Squadron, and is well known in the Wing and higher in the Corps. The Band is a Corps of drums playing side drum, tenor, bass and B flat flutes. We also have symbols and bugle.

The Band takes part in many parades, which only Band members need to attend. The Band also raises valuable money for the Squadron, which can help towards buying certain things like equipment for the Band or Squadron.
