We are representing the AUFKLARUNGS-ZUG (Armored Reconnaissance Platoon) within the Stabskompanie. Historically, at full strength, the platoon consisted of a small HQ squad and 3 squads of 12 men. Within these squads there were 2 sections with 6 men each. We currently represent the Erste (first) Gruppe (up to 12 men) and will add the Stabsgruppe (13 to 18 men) as the unit grows. According to historical research and discussions with veterans, the squads were rarely this number. Due to training, leave of absence, wounds, death, and lack of replacements, the numbers were greatly less. Because we are representing front line reconnaissance troops who incurred great losses, and the fact that we are reenacting (reenactments are held on a much smaller scale than the actual battles), and since our troops aren’t obligated to be at events, we currently find our average squad size somewhere between 4 and 7 men.
ZUG (Platoon) = HQ Gruppe, 3 Gruppen (Squads)
GRUPPE (Squad) = 12 Soldats (Soldiers)
ROTTE (Section) = 6 Soldats (Soldiers)
