The Reason for this madness.

In February this year, our nine year old son, Matthew, was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer (Ewings Sarcoma) and is currently undertaking chemotherapy at the Piam Brown Childrens Cancer ward within Southampton General Hospital. He is half way thru the chemotherapy treatment and due to finish at the end of the year. In July 2004, Matthew had a major operation on on his left leg, resulting in removal of most of his femur. He now has a titanium prothesis fitted. This operation was done at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex.

On 1st August 2004 a bike ride between the two hospitals took place to raise much needed funds for the two units where Matthew's treatment was undertaken. There were about 100 people involved, from cyclists, drivers, first aiders to supporters. It was a fantastic day andf the money raised is fastly approaching £15,000.

If you have been affected by Cancer, I recommend that you read Lance Armstrong's "It's not about the bike". It tells the story of a young, fit , American cyclist who is diagnosed with stage four testicular cancer. He wins his battle against it and goes on to win the Tour de France.

I hope you enjoy the site and hope you are kind enough to make a donation to these two very worthy causes.
